Primary objective
Provides a recognised reference point and consistent broad level of influence regarding service planning and delivery to multi-disciplinary
clinicians across a defined practice area.

Context statement
The Safety and Quality Manager reports to the Director of Safety and Quality, TER and promotes clinical performance and excellence in
line with the National Safety and Quality Health Care Standards. The position leads a team and supports good clinical governance by
embedding quality improvement and a safety culture across the Royal Darwin and Palmerston Hospitals. The position plays a key role
across all stages of the accreditation cycle and within clinical incident management.

Key duties and responsibilities
1. Lead and manage a team with responsibility for staff recruitment and retention, induction, professional development, performance

management, continuous quality improvement, and operational planning.
2. Uses expert professional clinical and management knowledge and experience to lead the coordination and integration of a diverse

range of programs and strategies, including multidisciplinary, financial and human resource programs, across the Health Service.
3. Follow defined service quality standards, work health and safety policies and procedures relating to the work being undertaken in

order to ensure high quality, safe services and workplaces.
4. Prepare reports, guidelines and correspondence pertaining to the performance, service delivery and management of the Department.
5. Foster a positive workplace culture through exemplary leadership practices and role modelling behaviour.

Selection criteria
Essential
1. Tertiary qualification in an Allied Health discipline with eligibility for professional registration in the NT where appropriate, and

membership of a professional association.
2. Demonstrated high-level leadership and managerial skills including strategic thinking, practical people management and the ability to

successfully support change in a dynamic multi-disciplinary environment.
3. Demonstrate collaboratively, initiating, developing, implementing and evaluating service delivery, protocols/ standards, harm

minimisation strategies and quality benchmarks across multi-disciplinary working groups.
4. Demonstrated use of excellent communication skills to maximise productive working relationships including with relevant executive

management and the multidisciplinary team, and to manage conflict to promote co-operation, teamwork and understanding in
undertaking challenging, demanding and complex work.

5. Demonstrated contribution to the dissemination of nursing/midwifery knowledge.
6. Demonstrated and applies highly developed knowledge and understanding of the social and cultural issues, influences and sensitivities

that influence health care and delivery of service programs for individuals and groups

Desirable
Post-graduate qualification in a relevant field such as a Safety and Quality / Health Care Systems or Management or similar

that influence health care provision for individuals and groups.

1. Graduate Diploma, or equivalent, beyond entry to practice relevant to specialty area.
