Tenterfield Shire Council is seeking an experienced and multi-skilled Team Leader to join its Works Section within the Infrastructure Services division. Ideal for a proven civil construction professional with strong excavator
experience
and a passion for leading from the front.
This position is available due to the
internal promotion of the previous Team Leader

From day one, you'll also be supported by the
Works Coordinator
, a respected leader who has similarly progressed through the ranks. Known for his stability, practical leadership, and deep knowledge of civil operations, he'll work closely with you to ensure a smooth onboarding and set you up for long-term success.
You'll report to the Works Coordinator and lead a team of operators and labourers, ensuring works are delivered safely, efficiently, and to a high standard.
Your Day-to-Day: Leadership with Boots on the Ground
Your key responsibilities will include:
* Supervising the daily tasks of your field team and overseeing completion of documentation
* Operating excavators and other plant across worksites
* Delivering road construction, maintenance, earthworks and drainage activities
* Installing and maintaining rural and urban drainage systems
* Coordinating small plant and equipment use (e.g. chainsaws, pumps, compactors)
* Overseeing sediment control, signage installation, and site rehabilitation
* Promoting safety, team development and high standards of workmanship
* Liaising with landowners, contractors, and external authorities as needed
* Completing traffic control duties per approved plans
* Supporting other works teams as directed
What You Bring to the Crew
To be considered for this role, you must hold:
* Certificate III in Civil Construction or equivalent
* Demonstrated experience operating excavators and civil plant
* Experience leading or supervising teams in road maintenance or construction
* A current NSW Class C Driver's Licence
* NSW White Card, and Traffic Controller & Implementer Tickets
Desirable:
* Certificate IV in Civil Construction / Local Government Operations
* NSW HR Driver's Licence
* Chainsaw & First Aid Certification
* Ability to prepare a Work Zone Traffic Management Plan
