Homes NSW is a division of the Department of Communities and Justice. It brings together the housing and homelessness functions of the Department of Communities and Justice, the NSW Land and Housing Corporation, Aboriginal Housing Office and key worker housing functions from across government all under one roof.
Homes NSW leads work to deliver more social and affordable housing, end the cycle of homelessness, and deliver quality public housing to our 262,000 tenants across NSW. The Design Office within the Housing Portfolio champions, leads and drives high quality design across all Homes projects.
Provide senior professional design advice, coordination, management and testing to support the delivery of high-quality, sustainable, well-designed social and affordable homes and great places.
Your role
Operating within established government, portfolio and organisational frameworks, the role supports a consolidated Design Office function that brings together concept design, design management, design advisory and design policy and systems services, enabling flexible deployment across projects and workstreams.
What you'll do
Your role will include:
* Provide senior design advice and technical input across pipeline development, feasibility, concept development, detailed design and delivery phases to support high design-quality, sustainable, cost-effective housing outcomes that meet tenant needs.
* Contribute to design and documentation review, peer review and design assurance processes, identifying risks, opportunities and improvement areas.
* Integrate planning controls, site constraints and statutory approval requirements into design advice to support feasibility, yield and delivery considerations.
* Provide advice on value engineering, buildability, safety-in-design and compliance with Homes NSW requirements, relevant Australian Standards and contractual specifications.
* Coordinate and liaise with internal and external stakeholders, delivery teams and external consultants to support timely, integrated design outcomes.
* Support the application and continuous improvement of Homes NSW design standards, guidelines and tools, including participation in post-occupancy evaluation activities.
* Prepare clear design advice, reports and documentation to support decision-making and assurance processes.
* Operate in accordance with governance arrangements, escalating risks, issues and departures from standards as required, and provide guidance, coordination or supervision to staff or project team members where required
What we're looking for
* Tertiary qualifications in Architecture Eligibility for registration with the NSW Architects Registration Board or equivalent.
* Demonstrated commitment to design excellence and design integrity.
* Demonstrated experience contributing to the delivery of high-quality architectural or urban design outcomes across multiple project stages, including master planning, feasibility, concept development, delivery and post-occupancy review.
* Experience working within multidisciplinary project teams, contributing to coordinated design development and project delivery outcomes.
* Demonstrated ability to interpret and apply planning controls, design standards, policies and relevant regulatory frameworks within a project context.
* Experience supporting the preparation and review of design documentation, reports and presentations to inform project and governance outcomes.
* Demonstrated ability to manage competing priorities and contribute to project delivery within agreed timeframes.
