Visiting Medical Officer in Emergency Medicine (FACEM or FRACP PEM)

The NSW Health system is seeking a skilled Consultant Emergency Physician to fill a fixed-term, 12-month position at John Hunter Hospital. This role includes guaranteed rostered weekend and evening VMO shifts (equivalent 3.0 FTE available) in the Emergency Department.

This is an excellent opportunity for medical professionals to make a meaningful impact while working in a dynamic environment that prioritizes patient care and well-being. The successful candidate will have the chance to work with a talented team of healthcare professionals and contribute to the development of the new Acute Services Building.

Key Highlights:

* Major Trauma & Tertiary Centre: John Hunter Hospital is home to the only trauma centre outside Sydney and delivers primary and tertiary trauma services to the Hunter Valley, Central Coast, New England, and Mid North Coast regions.
* High-Acuity, Diverse Caseload: With one of the busiest EDs in the state, this role provides exposure to a broad range of emergency medicine, including paediatrics, major trauma, critical care, and retrieval services.
* Strong Research & Training Links: Work in a hospital with innovative collaborations with the Hunter Medical Research Institute and the University of Newcastle, supporting professional growth, education, and research opportunities.
* Cutting-Edge Retrieval Service: In partnership with the Hunter Retrieval Services, Westpac Rescue Helicopter and NSW Ambulance, we provide retrieval services for critically ill patients across northern NSW.

Requirements:

* A primary medical degree registrable with AHPRA.
* Fellowship with the Australasian College for Emergency Medicine (FACEM), OR FRACP Paediatrician with a Specialisation in Emergency Medicine (FRACP PEM).
* Clinical Responsibilities: Admitting, consultative, diagnostic, procedural, outpatient, telehealth, and on-call services as required by HNELHD.
* Education & Research: Contribute to training, supervision, and ongoing clinical education within the department.
