Teach, research and lead in Language and Literacy Early Childhood, Initial Teacher Education and Postgraduate Education.
About the role
The purpose of this role is to make contributions to the scholarly teaching, research and leadership efforts of the University of Notre Dame Australia. The successful candidate will teach, coordinate and lead courses and programs in Language and Literacy Education in National Early Childhood and Initial Teacher Education and postgraduate degrees, ensuring alignment with the Accreditation of initial teacher education programs in Australia: Standards and Procedures.
The successful candidate will also carry out scholarly research, supervise HDR students, and take up professional activities relevant to promoting knowledge about language and literacy that supports learners' capacities to participate in communities within and beyond school. This position reports to the National Head of School, Education.
Key Responsibilities
* Coordinate, design and teach courses in Language and Literacy Education at undergraduate and postgraduate teacher education programs.
* Develop, lead and maintain a research agenda relevant to the role, fostering collaborations within and beyond the University.
* Demonstrate active participation in service activities that support the smooth running of the School, Faculty and University.
* Ensure courses and programs are aligned with external Accreditation Standards and Procedures.
* Lead in the Language and Literacy Education field through collaborations with schools, school systems, and community groups.
* Supervise Higher Degree by Research (HDR) students.
* Comply with and promote safe working practices as set out in University policy.
Qualifications, Skills & Experience
* A Doctoral qualification relevant to knowledge about Language and Literacy Education.
* Demonstrated skills, knowledge and experience in Language and Literacy Education, its role in literacy development within and beyond educational settings, and resources that support literacy proficiencies.
* Ability to design and facilitate quality language and literacy teaching in university-level teacher education programs.
* Knowledge of current trends and key issues relevant to research and practice in Language and Literacy Education.
* Record of research activity, collaborations and outputs in Language and Literacy Education.
* Experience teaching in the primary and/or secondary school sector.
* Support for the Objects of Notre Dame as a Catholic University.
* Understanding and support for implementing the AITSL Standards and Procedures for initial teacher education program accreditation.
* Strong interpersonal skills and capacity for teamwork and collaboration with colleagues, students, teachers and practitioners in the field.
* Knowledge and experience researching and teaching language and literacy in early childhood education.
* Understanding of the role of play in language and literacy development.
* Experience working across multisite locations and in multidisciplinary and/or interdisciplinary teams.
