The key duties of the position include The Role The Director Business Management Unit (DBMU) reports to the Officer Commanding, Air Combat Electronic Attack Systems Program Office (OC ACEASPO) and is responsible for providing leadership, integration and management of complex commercial and international arrangements that enable Air Force fast jet capabilities. DBMU is also accountable for the delivery of effective business and security services across the Systems Program Office (SPO). You will draw on your significant commercial acumen and be accountable for maintaining required governance standards in accordance with relevant Commonwealth legislation and policy. You will be responsible for ensuring SPO compliance with regulations associated with its extensive international Foreign Military Sales arrangements with the United States Government. You will provide informed and considered advice to internal and external stakeholders and be responsible for implementation of complex strategies that provide best practice corporate, commercial and business performance that supports the delivery of fast jet capabilities for Air Force. You will influence and support the strategic direction of the SPO, as a key member of the Executive, contributing to high level decision making to achieve complex supportability outcomes. Further, you will be expected to continue development of your own skills and abilities in these areas to remain current and adopt innovative and best practice approaches to this role. As the senior APS member of the SPO you are expected to provide advice, mentorship and guidance and lead the development and professionalisation of the wider APS workforce including, championing the Defence Values and Behaviours throughout the unit. About our Team The Air Combat Electronic Attack Systems Program Office (ACEASPO) at the Royal Australian Air Force (RAAF) Base Amberley is an important business unit within the Air Combat Systems Branch. ACEASPO is the in-service support agency responsible for sustaining and enhancing the Air Force's F/A-18F Super Hornet and E/A18G Growler aircraft capabilities. ACEASPO leads industry to enable the delivery of ready, resilient, and resourceful strategic Air Combat effects. These fleets form the backbone of the Air Combat and Electronic Attack capability within Defence, for Australia. In this role you will lead and manage the Enabling Services team, that governs and delivers a significant Portfolio of commercial, foreign military sales, corporate, business and security functions. You and the team engage with multiple complex stakeholder groups from within Defence, across Australian Defence Industry and with Coalition partners. You will have extensive experience and comprehensive knowledge of commercial, corporate and/or business management disciplines and be responsible for the development, implementation, compliance and review of strategies, policy and procedures across these functions. You will have demonstrated capability to manage a diverse team of people (eg. public servant, Air Force and industry personnel) to deliver capability outcomes in a high tempo work environment. You should have the capability to deliver clear and compelling communication to Defence senior leaders and a wide stakeholder network. You will be self-motivated and self-initiating, with a strong demonstrated ability to think and act strategically in complex environments, apply risk based decision making, understand policy and governance requirements, and ensure translation into practical, efficient and aligned SPO strategies, processes and practices. As someone who is interested in self-development, you will keep your knowledge current and relevant, which will enable you to provide solutions and guidance to complex issues. Our ideal candidate will have: Highly developed leadership skills. Strong commercial and business acumen; including a demonstrated understanding or experience in working with the Defence Industry sector in Australia and/or with Coalition partners would be highly regarded. Considerable experience with stakeholder engagement and be able to identify, anticipate and respond to stakeholders' needs and expectations in order to achieve the SPO and wider Defence business outcomes. The ability to think strategically, problem solve and navigate complex bureaucratic environments. Excellent risk management skills. Strong written and oral communication skills. Well-developed emotional intelligence.
