This position is an unaccredited gynaecological oncology training position, accredited for advanced STP training position for a pre-FRANZCOG (year 5-6) trainee. If you are intending to apply for CGO training, this is a perfect pre-selection year.
Selection Criteria
1. Pursuing a future career in gynaecological oncology or gaining advanced surgical skills (open/laparoscopic) for complex gynaecology
2. NSW Medical Board Registration or eligible for registration
3. Pre-FRANZCOG certification (year 5-6)
4. Previous clinical and research experience, preferably with gynaecological cancer patients
5. Previous knowledge and skills in complex gynaecological procedures/ gynae oncology including the ability to perform more complex gynaecological cancer surgery under supervision
6. Good verbal and written communication skills
7. Good organisational skills
8. Ability to work in a multidisciplinary team
9. Focused on providing patient-centred, holistic evidence-based care
10. Ability to mentor and teach more junior members of the team
11. Commitment to patient safety and completion of mandatory training
Description of position:
In addition to involvement in surgical procedures for gynaecological cancer patients as primary or assistant surgeon under direct supervision, 1-2 days per week, this position involves:
1. Be responsible for the day-to-day medical and surgical care of patients in gynaecological oncology, and under supervision for peritonectomy patients in collaboration with the RPA advanced gastrointestinal surgery team.
2. Participate in the teaching of registrars, residents, and medical students.
3. Initiate and complete a research project involving gynaecological cancer.
4. Be involved in the continuing development of the hospital as a tertiary referral centre.
5. Some time working in private practice clinic (up to one day per week).
6. Surgical assisting at Prince of Wales Private Hospital every second Saturday, at fee-for-service assistant remuneration rates, is part of salary.
