Role Overview
Hastings Deering (Australia) Ltd is seeking experienced and motivated Diesel or Mechanical Fitters to join our team at our Component Rebuild branch in Mackay, QLD. You will be responsible for the disassembly, inspection, rebuild, and testing of major Caterpillar components, working within a specialized team focused on quality, safety and precision. This position offers hands‐on technical work across a wide range of heavy equipment components, providing excellent variety while playing a key role in keeping our customers' operations running smoothly.
Key Responsibilities
* Hands‐on expertise – complete teardown, inspection, and rebuild of major components including transmissions, differentials, torque converters, and hydraulic systems.
* Problem solver – diagnose faults and accurately assess wear or damage across a range of components.
* Precision focused – measure and inspect parts to Caterpillar specifications with attention to detail.
* Quality‐focused execution – perform repairs and replacements in line with OEM standards and workshop manuals, followed by thorough testing and final checks to ensure components meet performance requirements before release.
* Detail oriented – complete job reports and service documentation accurately and on time.

Qualifications
* Qualified professional – trade qualification as a Diesel Fitter / Heavy Diesel Mechanic or equivalent.
* Industry experience – proven experience in component rebuilds within heavy equipment, mining, or mechanical workshop environments.
* Technically skilled – strong mechanical aptitude with well‐developed fault‐finding abilities.
* Caterpillar experience (highly regarded) – familiarity working with Caterpillar equipment or components.
* Quality focused – high attention to detail with a strong commitment to workmanship standards.
* Technically capable – ability to read and interpret technical manuals and follow detailed specifications.
* Strong communicator – effective communication skills with the ability to work collaboratively in a team environment.
* Safety driven – proactive approach to maintaining workplace health and safety at all times.
