In this hands‐on role, you'll plan and conduct laboratory experiments using cutting‐edge analytical technologies—including Nuclear Magnetic Resonance (NMR), Time‐of‐Flight Secondary Ion Mass Spectrometry (ToF‐SIMS) and X‐Ray Tomography—to drive high‐impact outcomes across a diverse portfolio of research projects.Key responsibilities will include:* **Technical:** Provide advanced scientific expertise in mineral processing research, including NMR, X-ray tomography, ToF-SIMS, and related techniques. Maintain knowledge of laboratory methods and equipment, perform experiments and data analysis, and produce reports. Support researcher and student training and develop or refine techniques to improve research outcomes.* **Safety:** Oversee safe operating procedures, risk assessments, and safety processes. Manage research housekeeping, including waste disposal, sample storage and chemical inventories. Promote safe design practices, support a proactive safety culture, and drive continuous improvement in team methods and techniques.This is a part-time (60%), fixed-term position for 12 months at HEW Level 7.# **About You*** Completion of a post graduate qualification in Chemistry/Chemical engineering or a related area with subsequent relevant experience (at least four years) in the application of advanced techniques in a research context or an equivalent combination of relevant experience and/or education/training.* Highly desirable experience in analysing samples relating to mineral processing processes such as comminution and flotation.* Extensive experience and expertise in laboratory management and/or relevant research field.* Relevant experience in a scientific role, providing support to researchers in the use of advanced techniques such as NMR, X-Ray tomography, ToF-SIMS and other relevant techniques.* Experience in data processing using relevant software packages for the use of advanced techniques, data analysis and report writing.* Demonstrated understanding of OH&S principles and practices, with the ability to interpret current OH&S legislation and apply to work situations when required.* Well-developed problem-solving skills, with an ability to forward plan, prioritise tasks to meet deadlines and work with a high level of adaptability, both independently and as part of a team.* Conscientious attention to following correct procedures and maximising quality of work, including good data management procedures.* Strong interpersonal and communication skills with proven ability to produce clear, succinct documentation and the ability to liaise effectively with a wide range of stakeholders in a research environment.Appointment to this role is subject to the successful completion of relevant pre-employment checks, which may include verification of the right to work in Australia.
