Basic Function & Responsibilities
Provide instructional assistance to students under the direct supervision of a certified teacher. Assist in preparing, conducting, and managing classroom activities.
Qualifications
Education/Certification:
* High school diploma or GED
* Have met formal academic assessment, associate's degree, or two years of study at an institution of higher learning*
* Valid Texas Educational Aide certificate
Special Knowledge/Skills/Abilities:
* Ability to work well with children
* Ability to communicate effectively
* Ability to assist in instructing reading, writing, and mathematics
Experience:
* Some experience working with children

Instructional Support
* Provide instruction to students under the direction of teacher; work with individual students or small groups.
* Help teachers in preparing instructional materials and classroom displays.
* Assist with administration and scoring of objective testing instruments or work assignments.
* Help maintain a neat and orderly classroom.
* Help with inventory, care, and maintenance of equipment.
* Help teachers keep administrative records and prepare required reports.
* Provide orientation and assistance to substitute teachers.
Student Management
* Help supervise students throughout the school day, inside and outside the classroom, including lunchroom, bus, and playground duty.
* Keep teachers informed of special needs or problems of individual students.
Professional Effectiveness
* Follow district safety protocols and emergency procedures.
* Maintain confidentiality.
* Participate in staff development training programs to improve job performance.
* Participate in staff development training programs, faculty meetings, and special events as assigned.
* Follow district policies and procedures pertaining to the job.

* Tools/Equipment Used: Standard office equipment including computer and peripherals; standard instructional equipment; (P.E. teachers: automated external defibrillator (AED))
* Posture: Prolonged standing; frequent kneeling/squatting, bending/stooping, pushing/pulling, and twisting
* Motion: Frequent walking
* Lifting: Regular light lifting and carrying (less than 15 pounds); may lift and move textbooks and classroom equipment
* Environment: Work inside, may work outside (exposure to sun, heat, cold, and inclement weather); regular exposure to noise
* Required by Every Student Succeeds Act (ESSA) for aides providing instructional support in Title I, Part A program.
