Exciting short-term opportunity for a skilled Site Safety Officer to work on a large FNQ Project - DIDO!

HAYS Construction & Engineering NQ are excited to partner with one of Australia's leading infrastructure and construction companies to support a key disaster recovery project in Far North Queensland. This established civil contractor is seeking a capable and proactive Site Safety Officer on a contract role initially offered for 2 - 3 months, with the potential for extension.
Your new role
This position has been created to provide on-site safety support. You will work closely with the Senior Safety Advisor, Site Manager, Superintendent, and Supervisor to uphold a strong safety culture and ensure compliance across all site activities. You will be responsible for maintaining safety systems, conducting inspections, and supporting incident management processes. The role requires a hands-on approach, strong communication skills, and the ability to work independently when required.
Key responsibilities include:
* Conducting daily site safety inspections and hazard identification
* Monitoring subcontractor compliance with WHS policies and procedures
* Assisting with incident investigations and reporting
* Maintaining accurate safety records
* Reviewing and supporting Safe Work Method Statements (SWMS) and risk assessments
* Participating in toolbox talks, pre-start meetings, and safety briefings
* Auditing PPE usage, site signage, and emergency preparedness
* Navigating project documentation via the intranet and internal systems
What you'll need to succeed
To be successful in this role, you will bring:
* Certificate IV in Work Health and Safety
* Construction White Card
* Current Driver's Licence
* Previous experience ideally in civil construction
* Strong organisational and communication skills
* Ability to work autonomously and support senior safety personnel
* Willingness to learn and manage safety administration systems
