Are you passionate about supporting volunteers and shaping the future of Council's volunteer programs?

This rewarding role plays a key part in strengthening Council's volunteer program and shaping the future of volunteering across our organisation. You will support a coordinated and consistent approach to volunteer engagement, onboarding and retention while helping to deliver high‑quality volunteer programs. Working closely with teams across Council, you'll ensure our volunteers feel supported, prepared and connected, and that our services continue to be delivered safely, effectively and with community at the heart.

What You Will Be Doing

As a Volunteer Support Officer, you'll be a key player in building a vibrant engaged volunteer community and ensuring our programs are coordinated, effective and community focused, you will:

* Act as the primary liaison for volunteers. Promote volunteer engagement, facilitate volunteer induction, onboarding, record keeping, recognition and exit processes in line with Council's established volunteer program. Utilise program data to support reporting and inform decision making.
* Ensure all volunteers meet applicable legislative, regulatory and compliance requirements prior to and during the undertaking of their role, including accurately maintaining Council's Blue Card Services Portal for LSC Volunteers.
* Maintain and continuously improve Council's Community Volunteer Program by overseeing its policies, procedures, induction materials and operational functions, ensuring the program fosters volunteer empowerment, positivity and belonging.
* Facilitate access to training and gather feedback from volunteers to ensure they are equipped, supported and acknowledged in their roles, escalating any concerns to the Coordinator or Manager when required.
* Build and maintain strong, collaborative relationships with internal teams and engage with external stakeholders (including community groups, Indigenous organisations and government agencies) to stay informed of broader community volunteer opportunities where Council cannot meet a volunteer's interests.
* Evaluate the volunteer program against the National Volunteer Standards, maintain the volunteer database, review handbook and procedure updates and identify improvements to volunteer management systems and practices.

About You

You will be someone who brings:

* A strong understanding of best‑practice volunteer management, current issues facing volunteers in the community, and the roles of local, state and federal government in the volunteer sector.
* Experience assessing community needs and developing, implementing and evaluating volunteer programs, including the use of risk management principles, strengths‑based frameworks and continuous improvement processes.
* The ability to interpret, apply and develop volunteering procedures aligned with current policy and legislative requirements.
* Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, including confidence in facilitating groups, delivering training, addressing problems constructively, and managing conflict.
* Demonstrated ability to build effective relationships and work with people from diverse backgrounds and community groups.
* Strong administrative and digital skills, with the ability to prepare high‑quality correspondence, reports and related documentation.
* Competence in using Council's corporate systems, including Finance One, the electronic records management system, and the Microsoft Office Suite.

Mandatory Qualifications, Licenses and Experience:

* Certificate III in Business Administration and/or demonstrated experience in administration or customer support in a volunteer or community focused role
* Demonstrated experience in coordinating, developing and implementing volunteer programs within a complex multi-site organisation.
* Possess and maintain a current motor vehicle driver licence.
