We are seeking a Technical Manager for a permanent full-time opportunity. You will manage a dynamic team of technical and administrative officers that install, maintain, service and repair technical surveillance equipment, ICT networks and design and develop new capabilities that support serious and major crime investigations using the latest technology.
Your Key Accountabilities
The core capability requirements for this role are:
* Manage the installation, modification, maintenance and service of operational electronic surveillance and communications equipment.
* Provide management and guidance to specialist teams, ensuring a high level of technical expertise, advice and service to the technology, projects and communications systems used by the Unit.
* Manage the process of appraisals and implementation of equipment, including the identification of capabilities within time and budgetary constraints.
* Present high‐level advice, in both oral and written form, regarding technical capability and capacity with QPS stakeholders and senior management, other agencies and external contractors.
* Represent the Unit and/or the QPS in a variety of internal and external committees, forums and criminal proceedings, where expert technical advice is required.
* Assess, direct and develop technical policies, standards and procedures for current and future requirements of the Unit, ensuring compatibility with policies and legislative requirements.
Role Requirements
Mandatory:
* A Diploma or higher in Electronic Engineering, Technology, ICT, or a similar field as deemed equivalent.

Highly Desirable Technical/ Operational/ Educational experience
* Management of technical staff in a dynamic environment.
* Project management experience.
* High level knowledge of IoT, IP, Audio, Video, RF, WiFi, Analytics and/or Bluetooth technologies.
* Understanding of video analytics, video management systems, audio collection and product distribution.
Other Special Conditions
The following special conditions are required for each member of the Technical Surveillance Unit:
* A capacity to undertake the functions of an RF worker in compliance with Service policy in matters pertaining to working at heights, RF exposure, training, and other associated activities.
* The recruitment process requires all applicants to complete and sign a "Health and Suitability Declaration" form stating that they are unaware of any medical condition or predisposing physical or mental characteristic that would preclude them from safely undertaking duties as a Technical Officer.
* Preferred applicant/s will be required to undertake a pre‐placement medical examination, which includes eye testing and psychometric assessment. (Note: Please refer to the attached 'Pre‐Placement Health Assessment' section for further information).
* Ability to travel intra/interstate to perform duties and work in a mixture of indoor and outdoor environments as required.
* The position may entail exposure to material (written, visual and audio) of an explicit, graphic and/or sensitive nature.
* Ability to work in a declared low risk operational environment assisting technical surveillance installations.
* A current C class licence.
