The Senior Practitioner (Court) provides practice induction support and supervision individually and in groups with the purpose of instilling a culture of continuous growth and improvement in all areas of youth justice court practice.
The Senior Practitioner (Court) is responsible for supporting court practice across the region and/or Youth Justice Service Centre to ensure high-quality service delivery in accordance with policy, legislation, and practice guidelines.
The Senior Practitioner (Court) will operate within a team focused on advancing the continuous improvement of Youth Justice court capability through specialist advice, practice directions, and quality assurance mechanisms.

Key responsibilities include:
1. Demonstrating cultural capability and commitment to developing it to ensure an inclusive culture that aligns with the Human Rights Act 2019 and supports departmental programs and community partnerships aimed at preserving cultural connections for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples.
2. Contributing to the implementation of strategies and systems to improve court practice, delivered in accordance with legislative frameworks, departmental policies, procedures, and the Youth Justice Practice Framework.
3. Fostering collaborative legal stakeholder partnerships, including facilitating and leading regular court stakeholder meetings.
4. Providing recruitment, selection, professional development, and culturally appropriate supervision and leadership to staff.
5. Offering authoritative advice on youth justice court practice, working with regional and service centre leadership to build accountability, capability, skills, and knowledge, including enhancing the quality of verbal submissions, pre-sentence reports, affidavits, evidentiary materials, and court representation through:
* Induction, coaching, and mentoring departmental officers in court practice and submissions.
* Upskilling and maintaining standards for court reports and documentation, including quality assurance of Pre Sentence Reports and other court materials.
* Providing information on legislation and training to regional staff, including support on complex court matters and working with the Central Court Team to brief Crown Law as appropriate.
* Supervising court practice, including observations in court, to maintain quality standards and promote continuous improvement.
1. Promoting an accountable, fair, and safe workplace culture through management practices that foster high performance, continuous improvement, innovation, health and safety, equal employment opportunities, anti-discrimination, and performance management.
2. Participating in Leadership Team planning for service centre development and review.
3. Practicing and promoting excellence in service delivery and public administration, and seeking opportunities to improve client service and collaborative practice.
Role-specific/technical skills include:
1. Understanding the impacts of historical and contemporary policies on Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples, with demonstrated ability to engage effectively and humbly with these communities.
2. Applying knowledge of Queensland's Youth Justice system, with skills in engagement, assessment, and intervention with diverse and complex young people. Recognizing and articulating the interests of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples and consulting according to protocols.
3. Possession of an undergraduate or postgraduate degree relevant to the role, such as a Bachelor of Law, Master of Laws, or other recognized degree, is mandatory.
