Division of Medicine | Darwin, Northern Territory

Fixed-Term Full-Time (up to 2 years)

Staff Specialist Clinician (SMO 1.1 – SMO 1.6)

* Remuneration Package: $249,872 – $305,368

Senior Staff Specialist Clinician (SMO 2.1 – SMO 2.3)

* Remuneration Package: $315,756 – $349,100

An exciting opportunity is available for a Consultant Neurologist to join the Division of Medicine in Darwin, delivering specialist neurological care across the Top End of Australia. This role offers a rare chance to practise neurology in a tropical, culturally rich and clinically diverse environment, while making a meaningful impact on access to care for remote and Indigenous communities.

You will work within an experienced general medicine and multidisciplinary primary healthcare team, providing specialist neurology services across hospital, outreach and remote settings. The role is central to strengthening neurological services in the Northern Territory, with opportunities to broaden scope, develop services and engage with the unique challenges of tropical neurology and remote healthcare delivery.

This position is ideal for a neurologist motivated by service development, education and making a tangible difference to population health outcomes.

Responsibilities

* Deliver high‑quality consultant‑level neurology care
* Support and develop neurological services across the Top End
* Engage with Indigenous communities and remote healthcare teams
* Contribute to education, training and clinical governance activities
* Work collaboratively within a collegiate, multidisciplinary environment
* Make a real and lasting difference where specialist care is genuinely needed
* Experience unique clinical presentations, including tropical neurology
* Work with a large Aboriginal population in culturally rich settings
* Enjoy an unparalleled lifestyle with access to national parks, waterfalls, fishing and outdoor adventure
* Eligible for registration with the Medical Board of Australia
* Fellowship of the Royal Australasian College of Physicians (FRACP), or eligibility for Fellowship
* Consultant‑level experience in the assessment and management of neurology patients
* Excellent oral and written communication skills
* Ability to work effectively in a cross‑cultural environment
* Demonstrated ability to work collegially within a multidisciplinary team
* Commitment to improving Indigenous health outcomes
* Evidence of ongoing professional development, teaching and quality assurance activities
* Neurophysiology training
* Experience reporting EEGs
* Experience performing Nerve Conduction Studies (NCS) and Electromyography (EMG)


Qualifications

* Medical degree from a recognised university
* Residency in Neurology, or equivalent clinical training
* Board certification or eligibility for Royal Australasian College of Physicians
* Professional registration with the Medical Board of Australia
* Demonstrated ability to provide consultant‑level neurology care in a hospital and remote setting
* Experience with neurophysiology investigations and procedures (EEGs, NCS, EMG)
* Strong communication, teaching and collaborative skills
* Commitment to Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander health improvement
* Proven professional development and service‑development experience in a multicultural environment
