Situated within one of the world’s largest regenerative medicine and stem cell research centres at Monash University’s Clayton Campus, ARMI is at the forefront of biomedical discovery. The Institute brings together world-class researchers dedicated to advancing regenerative medicine across key focus areas, including heart and muscle development, immunity and regeneration, stem cells, cancer and regeneration, and neural regeneration.ARMI’s mission is to unravel the fundamental mechanisms of regeneration, enabling the development of innovative clinical therapies that can prevent, halt, and reverse damage to vital organs caused by disease, injury, or genetic conditions. The Institute operates within a highly collaborative ecosystem, engaging with Monash Institute for Medical Engineering (MIME), the Biomedical Discovery Institute (BDI), CSIRO, and international research partners to drive transformative research outcomes.About The RoleThe Deputy Director, Strategy & Planning is a critical leadership position responsible for driving ARMI’s strategic direction, operational excellence, and long-term sustainability. As the most senior professional staff member in the Institute, this role ensures the successful delivery of ARMI’s mission through effective governance, financial management, research support, and stakeholder engagement.Working closely with the Director of Research, ARMI’s Leadership Advisory Board, and key University leaders, the Deputy Director will be responsible for:Leading the development and execution of ARMI’s strategic plan, ensuring alignment with Monash University’s research priorities.Driving financial sustainability, including budget planning, funding acquisition, and commercialisation strategies to support long-term growth.Building and maintaining high-level relationships with government, industry, philanthropic partners, and research organisations to enhance funding opportunities and sector influence.Overseeing institute-wide governance, risk management, and compliance, ensuring adherence to University policies and external regulatory requirements.Leading business operations, contract management, and infrastructure planning to support research excellence.Directing ARMI’s people and culture strategy, fostering a high-performing team environment that aligns with the University’s commitment to inclusion and diversity.Strengthening ARMI’s national and international collaborations, working to expand research opportunities and global impact.Supporting the growth of the Master of Biotechnology program, ensuring its success as a key revenue stream for the Institute.This is a unique opportunity to take on a senior leadership role within a globally recognised research institute, contributing to discoveries that have the potential to transform healthcare and regenerative medicine.About YouThe successful candidate will be an experienced strategic leader with a strong background in research management, governance, and stakeholder engagement. You will have:A postgraduate qualification in a relevant field and extensive executive-level experience in a complex organisational environment.Proven expertise in developing and implementing strategic plans, particularly in research-intensive settings.Strong leadership experience in business operations, financial management, contract negotiations, and governance.Exceptional ability to build and manage strategic relationships across industry, government, academia, and research organisations.Experience in the Australian research sector, with an understanding of competitive funding environments, compliance, and commercialisation pathways.High-level research, analytical, and problem-solving skills, with the ability to drive complex initiatives and operational improvements.A track record of success in team leadership, fostering a culture of collaboration, service excellence, and professional development.Outstanding communication and negotiation skills, with the ability to influence and engage senior stakeholders.This role presents a rare opportunity to lead the strategic and operational direction of a globally recognised research institute, working alongside some of the world’s leading scientists in regenerative medicine.About Monash UniversityAt Monash, work feels different.
