About This Opportunity UQ Vets is seeking an experienced and compassionate Urgent Care Veterinary Nurse to join our dedicated clinical team. This role offers the opportunity to make a meaningful impact by delivering high-quality, life-saving care to animals in a dynamic emergency and intensive care environment. Working alongside leading veterinarians, specialists and nursing colleagues, you will provide expert clinical care to critically ill and injured patients. Your responsibilities will include patient assessment, monitoring and treatment, assisting with advanced diagnostics and emergency procedures, and maintaining excellent nursing standards in high-pressure situations. You will join a collaborative, multidisciplinary team that values clinical excellence, continuous learning and animal welfare, while also contributing to the teaching and training of veterinary and veterinary technology students in a hospital setting. Key responsibilities will include: Deliver high-quality clinical nursing care, including patient assessment, monitoring, treatment and husbandry across ICU, isolation and hospital wards, supporting complex diagnostics and procedures. Collaborate effectively with veterinarians, specialists and multidisciplinary teams to coordinate patient care, maintain specialised equipment, and adhere to and improve clinical SOPs. Support teaching and training activities by providing clinical guidance to veterinary and veterinary technology students in a hospital setting. Provide efficient administrative and client service support, including reception duties, pharmacy and inventory management, and use of practice management systems to support clinic operations. As a 24-hour operation, the rotating roster provides exposure to a broad range of cases and opportunities to develop your skills across multiple specialty areas. Your take-home salary will be dependent on your specific roster, including loadings of 50% for weekend shifts, 25% for night shifts, and 15% for afternoon shifts. Afternoon shifts are shifts commencing at or after midday and finishing at or before midnight, Night Shift are shifts extending beyond midnight and finishing at or before 9AM. UQ VETS Small Animal Hospital boasts the latest in veterinary medical and surgical diagnostic and treatment options for small animals, birds, exotic pets and wildlife, as well as a 7-day urgent and emergency Care service. UQ staff also supervise clinical placements at the RSPCA’s Brisbane Animal Care Campus, Wacol. Proven ability to deliver high-quality veterinary nursing care across all areas of practice. Strong organisational skills, with the ability to work flexibly, use initiative and manage competing priorities. Well-developed written and verbal communication skills, enabling effective professional relationships with colleagues, clients and students. Sound knowledge of ethical standards, policies and procedures, including workplace health and safety, equity and anti-discrimination. A collaborative team-oriented approach, supported by enthusiasm, initiative and self-motivation. Commitment to ongoing professional development and interest in supporting the clinical training of veterinary and veterinary technology students. Willingness to participate in professional or community service activities. Possession of, or eligibility to obtain, a radiation licence.
