Allied Health Music Therapist Applications are being sought for a Music Therapist to join The Geelong Clinic’s Allied Health Team. The position will consist of at least 6 hours per week, with many opportunities to work additional hours. The successful applicant will work in a multidisciplinary team approach, providing predominantly group therapy for patients who experience a range of mental health issues. Key Responsibilities Plan and facilitate and evaluate structured music therapy groups in a mental health context Use evidence-based music therapy approaches to support emotional regulation, identity, communication, recovery and wellbeing Foster a safe, inclusive, and engaging therapeutic group environment Monitor participant wellbeing and respond appropriately to distress or risk Maintain clear, timely, and confidential clinical documentation Contribute to recovery planning and outcome evaluation Collaborate with a multidisciplinary team including allied health, nursing, and peer workers Support culturally responsive and trauma-aware practice About You Essential: Current registration with the Australian Music Therapy Association (AMTA) Masters degree in Music Therapy (or equivalent AMTA-approved tertiary qualification) Experience facilitating therapeutic groups and managing group dynamics of people with complex mental health needs Strong understanding of recovery-oriented and trauma-informed practice Ability to work both independently and collaboratively within in a multidisciplinary team Competency in reflective practice and commitment to upholding professional boundaries and ethics Knowledge of music therapy methods relevant to a psychiatric setting Current National Police Check (or willingness to obtain) Desirable: Experience in facilitating groups in non-acute or community mental health settings Strong interpersonal and communication skills, skills in documentation Skills in improvisation, songwriting, and resource-oriented music therapy Knowledge of risk assessment and care/recovery planning Experience working with culturally diverse communities Excellent organisation skills The Geelong Clinic is a 73 bed Psychiatric Hospital that offers a range of inpatient, day programs and outreach services for individuals experiencing mental health problems.
