Farm Machinery Operator and Maintenance Officer
We are seeking a reliable, technically-minded, and safety-conscious Farm Machinery Operator and Maintenance Officer to join our Suncoast Harvest team. This role is the backbone of our seasonal operations, ensuring that our fleet of agricultural equipment is running at peak performance and that field operations are executed with precision.
The ideal candidate isn't just a driver—they are a steward of the machine, capable of identifying a mechanical issue before it leads to downtime and taking pride in the quality of their work, from the first furrow to the final harvest.
Key Responsibilities
1. Machinery Operation
* Safely and efficiently operate a range of heavy agricultural machinery, including high-horsepower tractors, zero turn mowers, skid steer, forklift (favourable) excavator (favourable) and sprayers.
* Accurately complete operational checklists, including pre-starts and shut down of machinery and equipment.
* Execute seasonal tasks including spraying (chemical handling), mowing, slashing. Potential for ground cultivation for right candidate, with focus on property and fleet maintenance a priority.
2. Preventative Maintenance & Repairs
* Perform daily pre-start checks and routine maintenance (greasing, oil changes, filter replacements).
* Diagnose mechanical, hydraulic, and basic electrical faults in the field or workshop.
* Conduct \"off-season\" machinery overhauls to ensure all equipment is field-ready for the next peak period.
* Maintain a clean and organized workshop environment and keep accurate maintenance logs.
3. Property Maintenance
* Assist with ground maintenance (mowing, whipper snipper, painting, picking trolley maintenance), deliveries and transport logistics.
* Ensure the property is free from long grasses.
* Weed management
* Spraying weed eradicating chemicals.
* Communicate effectively with farm management regarding equipment needs, parts ordering, and field progress.
Skills & Qualifications
* Experience: Proven experience operating modern, large-scale cropping or broadacre machinery.
* Technical Aptitude: Strong mechanical knowledge; ability to troubleshoot and perform repairs under pressure.
* Licenses: Valid driver’s license (Heavy Rigid or Heavy Combination license preferred). Relevant chemical application certificates (e.g., ChemCert) are a major plus.
* Work Ethic: A flexible approach to hours—farming doesn’t always follow a 9-to-5, especially during strawberry season and harvest windows.
Core Competencies
Safety First: Deep commitment to OHS standards and the safety of yourself and teammates.
Attention to Detail: Precision in property maintenance, vehicle maintenance logs, machinery calibration and equipment maintenance.
Problem Solving: The ability to \"think on your feet\" when a machine breaks down in the middle of a paddock.
Autonomy: Capable of working independently for long stretches while maintaining high standards.
Why Join Us?
We offer a competitive salary based on experience, modern equipment to work with, and a supportive team environment. For the right candidate, this is a long-term opportunity to grow with a progressive agricultural business.
Note: This position involves physical labor and extended hours during peak seasons. Candidates must be fit, healthy, and prepared for the demands of a high-production farm environment.
