Metal Fabricator I Welder

About the Role
A full-time opportunity has become available for an experienced Metal Fabricator/ Welder to join the team at Shade Engineering, based in South Guildford. With the introduction of new product lines, we are expanding our in-house fabrication capabilities and are seeking a skilled fabricator to play a key role in this next phase.
This is a stable, long-term position suited to someone who takes pride in high-quality workmanship, enjoys hands-on fabrication, and wants to be involved in building systems and processes from the ground up.
What You'll Be Doing
• Assisting with the initial setup of a new fabrication workshop, including layout, tooling, and machinery selection
• Reading and interpreting fabrication drawings and specifications
• Fabricating steel components for shade structures and outdoor products
• Operating welding equipment, hydraulic punch and swager, and general fabrication machinery
• Measuring, marking, and cutting steel, aluminium, and timber materials
• Performing MIG welding (TIG welding advantageous)
• Ensuring all fabricated components meet quality and safety standards
• Maintaining all equipment and keep a clean, organised, and safe workshop environment
• Collaborating with the wider team to meet production targets and deadlines
What We're Looking For
• Trade-qualified Metal Fabricator/ Welder or equivalent industry experience
• Strong fabrication and welding experience (structural or light-to-medium steel)
• Competent in using welding equipment, metalworking machinery, and hand tools
• Experience using woodworking machinery (or willingness to learn)
• Ability to read and interpret technical drawings
• Ability to identify and rectify fabrication issues
• A strong work ethic which strives to increase process efficiency
• Someone who enjoys being involved in the design and review processes for new
products
• Someone who is able to manage a Trades Assistant or apprentice as production
increases
• High attention to detail and pride in workmanship
• Ability to work independently and as part of a small team
• Good communication and time management skills
• Strong commitment to workplace health and safety
• Applicants must be physically capable to carry out lifting and other manual tasks
and must be able to comply with zero drug and alcohol policies.
• Have current drivers licence (manual licence prefered)
• Forklift licence and other tickets advantagous but not essential
