DCC specialises in 24-hour residential care, allied health, outreach support, community access, supervised family contact, and transport. It is dedicated to creating a warm, friendly home environment for our children and young people and empowering them with the skills needed to live independent lives.
About the role
In this role, you will work alongside children and young people with complex behavioural needs, disabilities, and diverse cultural backgrounds. We place a strong emphasis on culturally appropriate and respectful practices in all aspects of care and support.
This is a role that demands more than basic caregiving — it requires astute role modelling, leadership, guidance, patience, and a deep willingness to be understanding and supportive. You will be expected to consistently demonstrate professional and compassionate behaviour, setting a standard for the young people in your care.
An important part of this role is navigating relationship rupture and repair. You will walk alongside the children and young people on their journeys, maintaining a commitment to rebuilding trust and connection whenever challenges arise.
Your ability to maintain accurate and detailed record-keeping is essential. Proper documentation will support effective case management and ensure compliance with organisational and legal requirements. Cleaning and maintaining a therapeutic, welcoming home environment are key responsibilities, as is encouraging and helping young people to develop and maintain personal and household hygiene.
Additionally, you will guide and assist our young people with personal care needs, including:
* Meal preparation
* Maintaining hygiene standards
* Medication administration (with accurate recording of medication data)
* Transportation to school, appointments, and community-based activities
* Maintaining a connection to Mob (family) and community for all children and young people
Additionally, you will provide trauma-informed care to children and young people dealing with complex behavioural challenges and trauma backgrounds. You will apply DCC's intensive model of therapeutic care, "The Trauma Recovery Model", to meet the needs of some of our most vulnerable and high‑risk children and young people.
This role offers a rewarding opportunity to positively impact the lives of children and young people by empowering them to achieve their goals in a supportive, nurturing environment.
