About This Opportunity
We are seeking an experienced and enthusiastic Research Engineer to provide specialist technical and engineering subject matter expertise in support of high-quality research outcomes at all stages of the research life-cycle. This role extends across materials engineering and the clinical evaluation environment.
In this role you will undertake biomedical assessments of additively manufactured implant materials. You will focus on evaluating newly developed alloys and novel manufacturing and surface modification techniques as well as exploring new technology development.
Key Responsibilities
* Collaborate and consult with research groups both at UQ and within its partners to ensure comprehensive technical testing programs are realised.
* Perform biomedical assessment and process optimisation on novel metal alloys.
* Analyse outcomes from experimental biomedical evaluations and report findings.
* Engage and influence stakeholders (research, industry) for supply chain improvements and setting context through global best practice benchmarks, standards and quality frameworks.
* Ensure expected quality, safety and certification standards are upheld.
* Contribute to the mentoring of undergraduate and postgraduate research students.
* In all activities, demonstrate leadership in ethics and safety.
* Any other duties as reasonably directed by your supervisor.

About You
* Bachelor's degree in engineering (or equivalent qualification) with subsequent relevant experience or a combination of relevant industry experience in additive manufacturing and managing large/complex projects or an equivalent combination of relevant experience and/or education/training.
* Demonstrated experience in research and working collaboratively with a wide range of colleagues and diverse stakeholders.
* Demonstrated experience in biomedical assessment of metallic alloys.
* Demonstrated high levels of drive and enthusiasm.
* Demonstrated ability to prioritise own workload, work independently and meet firm deadlines.
* High level of interpersonal, written and verbal communication skills.
* Ability and willingness to contribute actively toward a safe working culture and environment.
