Program Engagement Officer position working within a busy Government Department

Hays Recruitment are pleased to support the urgent recruitment of a Program Engagement Officer to work within the Queensland Government’s Northern District Communication and Stakeholder Management team. This role supports the delivery of an important transport program through high quality communication, stakeholder engagement and coordination across district project teams based in Townsville.
Your new role
In this role, you will:
1. Research and analyse information to prepare high quality written content for briefing notes and correspondence, ensuring clear and consistent communication to external stakeholders and the broader community.
2. Develop community engagement plans for projects, including crafting key messages, targeted engagement activities and communication strategies.
3. Prepare communication materials such as media enquiries and releases, ministerial briefings, newsletters, flyers, display materials and other content for senior management and the Minister’s Office.
4. Respond effectively to media enquiries and prepare draft media releases.
5. Build and maintain productive relationships with a wide range of key external stakeholders.
6. Maintain confidentiality and ensure proper handling of transport-related project data, documents and correspondence in accordance with departmental standards and recordkeeping requirements.
What you'll need to succeed
7. Strong written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to tailor information for diverse audiences.
8. Proven collaboration skills and a commitment to customer-focused outcomes.
9. Sound judgement, initiative and a willingness to innovate when solving problems or making decisions.
10. Solid understanding of government policy, legislation and governance frameworks.
11. Skilled in preparing high quality ministerial correspondence, briefing notes and executive communications.
12. Experience in community engagement and best practice consultation.
13. Ability to provide informed issues management advice to support reputation and maintain positive stakeholder relationships.
