Description

Under the direction of the school principal, plan and provide appropriate learning experiences for students. Provide an atmosphere and environment conducive to the intellectual, physical, social and emotional development of individuals to ensure success for every student. Supervise students in a variety of school related settings, monitor and evaluate student outcomes, and communicate and interact with students, parents, staff and community. Develop, select and modify instructional plans and materials to meet the needs of all students. Maintain appropriate records and follow required procedures and practices. Monitor appropriate use and care of equipment, materials and facilities.

Qualifications

Bachelor's Degree in applicable field of education from an accredited college or university. Must have or be eligible for a teacher license from the Virginia Department of Education. One year of teaching experience preferred.

Performance Responsibilities
* Know and effectively communicate the Division philosophy and mission.
* Assist the administration in implementing all policies and rules governing student life and conduct for the classroom, develop reasonable rules of classroom behavior and procedure, and maintain order in a fair and just manner.
* Participate in school management and share responsibility for the total school.
* Attend staff meetings and serve on staff committees as required.
* Plan a program of study that meets the needs, interests and abilities of students.
* Provide an instructional program to meet the needs of all students. Employ a variety of instructional techniques and instructional media.
* Guide the learning process toward the achievement of curriculum goals and establish clear objectives for lessons, units, projects and the like.
* Plan for regular timely parent communication.
* Establish outstanding relationships with students.
* Plan engaging lessons (taught curriculum) aligned with the written and tested curriculum.
* Implement interventions for students who struggle with the taught and tested curriculum.
* Meet and instruct assigned classes on a regular and consistent basis in the locations and at the times designated.
* Create a classroom environment that provides for student involvement in the learning process and enables each student to achieve learning objectives.
* Identify special needs and seek the assistance of Division specialists.
* Prepare for classes assigned, and show written evidence of preparation in accordance with Division and State guidelines.
* Plan for and utilize instructional methods, resources and evaluation techniques that motivate and enable each student to achieve learning objectives.
* Take all necessary and safety precautions to protect students, equipment, materials and facilities.
* Maintain accurate and complete records as required by law, NCPS policy and administrative regulation.
* Establish high expectations for academic success and classroom behavior.
* Provide availability to students and parents for education‐related purposes outside the instructional day when required or requested on reasonable terms.
* Exercise leadership in working with school and Division staff.
* Assist in the selection of books, equipment, and other instructional materials.
* Establish relationships with colleagues, students, parents and community reflecting recognition and respect for every individual.
* Plan and supervise purposeful assignments for teacher assistants and volunteers.
* Appraise own effectiveness and demonstrate successful application of skills and information acquired to increase effectiveness. Strive to maintain and improve professional competence.
* Accept a share of responsibility for extra‐curricular activities.
* Provide for professional growth through an ongoing program of reading, workshops, seminars, conferences, and/or advanced coursework at institutions of higher learning.
* Perform additional tasks and assume other responsibilities as may be assigned or delegated by school administrator.
Physical Requirements
* Must have the ability to sit and stand for extended periods of time.
* Exhibit manual dexterity to dial a telephone and to enter data into a computer.
* See and read a computer screen and printed material with or without vision aids.
* Hear and understand speech at normal classroom levels, outdoors and on the telephone.
* Speak in audible tones so that others may understand clearly in normal classrooms, outdoors, and on the telephone.
* Understand and follow oral and written instructions.
* Physical agility to lift up to 25 pounds and the ability to bend, stoop, sit on the floor, climb stairs, walk and reach overhead.
* Some teaching specialties may require hearing, vision and physical coordination and/or exertion and effort in excess of those listed.
* Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential tasks.
Terms of Employment

Ten‐month. Salary to be established by the School Board in accordance with the Teacher Salary Scale.

Evaluation

Job performance will be evaluated annually in accordance with the provisions of the School Board's policy on Evaluation of Professional Personnel.
