About the Role
An exciting opportunity has become available to join the Water Infrastructure and Operations Branch in an ongoing capacity from 1 July 2026.
Based in Berri, the Senior Operations Officer, Infrastructure Operations is responsible for the development, implementation and field coordination of floodplain, salt interception and disposal, and river infrastructure operations outcomes for the Assets and Operations Unit. The position is involved in bringing about improvements in the way DEW operates and maintains its infrastructure in accordance with environmental outcomes, operational requirements, and the Murray-Darling Basin Plan.
About you
You will have knowledge of riverine natural resource management, hydrological and environmental water issues, in particular those associated with the River Murray. You will be able to write fluently and be able to convey complex information in a way that the reader will easily understand. Experience in managing or operating water and/or wetland infrastructure or managing infrastructure projects will be highly regarded.

Desirable Qualifications
An appropriate degree/qualification in Science, Environmental Engineering or Environmental Management is desirable.
Special Conditions
* May be required to participate in responses to state emergencies or associated duties.
* You must be an Australian citizen, permanent resident, or provide evidence that you hold a valid working visa that allows you to work in Australia without restrictions.
* A current class "C" driver's licence and willingness and ability to safely operate a 4wd is essential.
* Inter and intrastate and remote area travel is required, including travel in light aircraft.
* May be required to undertake intra or interstate travel, occasional overnight absences, and work outside of the normal hours of work.
A successful applicant who is not currently employed by the Department for Environment and Water will be required to have an original photo identification document sighted and provide a valid Nationally Coordinated Criminal History Check (NCCHC) issued within the last 12 months.

ASO6 $102,171 min - $108,071 max p.a.
