In the 25 years of Margan's history, the brand has become known for its work within traditional wine styles of the region including varieties such as Semillon, Chardonnay and Shiraz. Most notably though, is our work with alternate varieties and contemporary styles. Albarino and Barbera establishing themselves as flagships of the estate as well as several unique 'field blend' expressions. To this point, we are looking for someone dynamic in their approach to winemaking and constantly looking to evolve and hone their practice - a passion for innovation._
- Viticulture is paramount to everything that we do at Margan and so an interest/aptitude in this area is essential._
- You will be tasked with leading a small cellar team which will expand during harvest. Culture is very important within Margan, and a healthy, happy disposition is important to furthering this team dynamic._
- A little about Margan..._
- We established our business, Margan in 1996 in the picturesque village of Broke, Hunter Valley which is Australia's oldest wine region. All Margan wines are Estate Grown and made as well as certified Sustainably Farmed. Margan has been rated a five-star winery (James Halliday Wine Companion) since 2009, twice winner of the Hunter Valley Cellar Door of the Year, Viticulturist of the Year winner and NSW Tourism Hall of Fame winner in recognition of our cellar door, winery and restaurant._
- We have 100 hectares of distinguished Margan vineyards, across two locations. These vineyards are planted to a mixture of 50-year-old traditional Hunter varieties and pioneering alternatives we have planted ourselves. Most of the vineyards are planted on the unique soil of the Fordwich Sill providing our wines with their special sense of place. We make all our wines onsite at our Broke based winery with annual production around 25,000 cases. You can try all our wines at our beautiful rammed earth cellar door where we have structured tastings, including new releases as well as aged and museum wines._
- We are also proud to be regarded as leaders in environmental stewardship and are fully accredited with Sustainable Winegrowing Australia and Freshcare. We were one of the first in the Hunter to achieve this and our certification benchmarks to the ISO14000 series (International Standards) for best practice. This means we follow a detailed Environmental Management Plan (EMP) to reduce our impact across all business operations in the four basic pillars of sustainability - reduction of greenhouse gases, energy efficiency, water management and the reduction of waste._
- Job Requirements_
- _Always ensure the efficient operation of the winery with a constant focus on wine quality._
- _Report to the Chief Winemaker and keep him informed with the current status of all wines._
- _Carry out routine and regular quality assessment of all wines in the winery and follow up with any appropriate operations to maintain or improve it._
- _Carry out laboratory analysis for all wines to ensure correct storage and bottling conditions for each wine. _
- _Maintain a record system for all wines processed within the winery._
- _Schedule regular production meetings and ensure wine is ready for bottling to meet release deadlines and other timeframes._
- _Create and manage the production schedule and production budget_
- _Order all dry goods for bottlings, ensuring accuracy with labelling designs, legal requirements etc_
- _Sign off all supplier bills to ensure they are priced and invoiced correctly._
- _Ensure correct storage of all bottled wine._
- _Storage shed to be maintained in a clean, tidy and organised state at all times._
- _Provide wine descriptions and tasting notes for wines as required._
- _Manage wine show entries and trade and media releases. _
- _Ensure all samples as requested by Chief Winemaker or Sales Assistant are dispatched to meet deadlines._
- _Maintain a clean and organised winery, both inside and out._
- _Ensure the barrels are always topped up and or clean._
- _Collaborate with Vineyard Manager and Chief Winemaker on viticultural decisions. _

Pay: $75,000.00 - $80,000.00 per year
