We're looking for a talented Cost Estimator to join our Forrestfield, Perth team and help drive the next generation of mining equipment manufacturing.
As a Cost Estimator at Schlam, you'll sit at the heart of our manufacturing success—turning complex information into clear, confident commercial decisions. Your expertise will shape project outcomes from concept through to delivery, enabling smarter planning, stronger margins, and exceptional results for our clients.
You'll work closely with engineers, project teams, and customers to deliver accurate, timely, and commercially sound estimates that support Schlam's reputation for quality, reliability, and innovation. Simply put—your work will matter.
Key Responsibilities
* Analyse and evaluate all cost drivers, including materials, labour, production time, and overheads
* Interpret technical drawings, specifications, and plans to develop precise, competitive cost estimates
* Collaborate with engineers, clients, contractors, and internal stakeholders to gather critical project inputs
* Prepare, review, update, and maintain cost estimates with a strong focus on accuracy and detail
* Identify and recommend cost‐optimisation opportunities without compromising quality or safety
* Support sales teams with quotes, tenders, proposals, and bids
* Maintain comprehensive records of project costs, assumptions, and market data
* Deliver high‐quality customer service throughout the entire project lifecycle
* Manage bid processes, coordinate project inputs, and prepare clear reports
* Develop estimation tools, benchmark, and identify new commercial opportunities
* Ensure all estimating activities align with operational, quality, and safety standards
What You'll Bring
* A Degree or Diploma in Mechanical Engineering, Metal Fabrication (Estimating), or a related discipline
* Proven experience in metal fabrication or a manufacturing environment
* Strong technical understanding of fabrication processes and manufacturing equipment
* Advanced skills in mathematics, CAD software, spreadsheets, and estimation tools
* Exceptional attention to detail, with strong communication and negotiation skills
* Sound knowledge of relevant industry regulations and quality standards
* The ability to work independently and collaboratively in a fast‐paced, deadline‐driven environment
