Join Swinburne University as a Senior Software Engineer (Web) and help shape the future of digital education and research. This role sits within our Digital Technology Delivery team, a key part of Swinburne IT, which drives innovation aligned with our 2030 Strategic Plan. We’re building integrated systems that support Future Ready Learners, Research with Impact, and Innovative Enterprise—making a real difference in how our staff and students experience technology.
As a Senior Software Engineer, you’ll collaborate with a talented team to design and deliver user-centred web applications and enhance our Web Content Management System. You’ll work closely with stakeholders across Student Administration, Marketing, Teaching, Research, and Corporate functions to implement impactful digital solutions. Your work will directly contribute to improving operational efficiency and the student experience.
About You
To be suitable for this role you will need to have experience in the key accountabilities:
* Write coherent, well-structured code adhering to object-oriented programming principles, software design patterns and industry standards such as WCAG, OWASP security best practices, Java standards, JavaScript standards (ECMAScript) and relevant university standards.
* Write complex SQL queries and design schemas.
* Build reusable code and libraries for future use.
* Implement standardised and reusable APIs.
* Provide 2nd and 3rd level application support to successfully restore service or resolve problems relating to the University’s IT Systems.
* Participate in cross-skilling initiatives to increase web developer’s resilience and flexibility including existing integration and 3rd party vendor systems utilized within Swinburne University of Technology.
Qualifications
* Extensive experience and management expertise; or Postgraduate qualifications or progress towards postgraduate qualifications and extensive relevant experience; or an equivalent combination of relevant experience and/or education/training.
