About The Role

Are you ready to take your engineering leadership to the next level in a high-impact, hands-on role?

We’re looking for an experienced and motivated Area Chief Engineer to lead the maintenance and property enhancement operations across Stamford Plaza Adelaide (335 rooms and suites) and Stamford Grand Adelaide (220 rooms and suites).

This is more than just a maintenance role it's your chance to be at the forefront of exciting transformations.

With a major asset enhancement project kicking off this month and continuing for approximately 1.5 years, you’ll be driving real change helping to modernise and future-proof our properties while maintaining day-to-day operational excellence.

Reporting directly to the Area General Manager and forming a key part of the senior leadership team, you will play a pivotal role in shaping the guest experience and the long-term asset strategy of two iconic Adelaide hotels.

You’ll lead and inspire a skilled team of trade professionals and support staff while working shoulder to shoulder with them on the ground.

Duties And Responsibilities

This is a dynamic, hands on leadership role that offers variety, challenge, and the opportunity to make a real impact.

Key Responsibilities Include

* Lead a major refurbishment project in collaboration with the Area General Manager be at the forefront of a transformative 1.5-year hotel enhancement initiative.
* Inspire and guide your team in planning and executing preventative maintenance and repair work, ensuring our facilities operate at the highest possible standard.
* Drive capital improvement by preparing and managing CAPEX proposals and overseeing project execution from concept to completion.
* Collaborate closely with department heads to minimise operational disruption during maintenance activities, keeping guest experience front and centre.
* Mentor and develop your team, sharing your technical knowledge and elevating the overall skill set of the engineering department.
* Manage external contractors from obtaining quotes and raising purchase orders to supervising onsite work ensuring quality, safety, and efficiency.
* Champion sustainability by designing and implementing innovative solutions to enhance energy efficiency and environmental performance.
* Track and report on performance, including monthly maintenance updates, budgets, and project progress.
* Lead and support project work as required, delivering on-time and on-budget results.
* Promote a strong safety culture, actively engaging in the implementation and monitoring of all Work Health & Safety policies and procedures.

Skills And Experience

You’ll bring a strong technical background, a proactive mindset, and the ability to lead both people and projects in a fast-paced hotel environment.

To Thrive In This Role, You’ll Ideally Have

* A minimum of 3 years’ experience as a Maintenance Manager, or at least 5 years in a senior Building or Facilities Manager role—preferably within a high-demand, service-oriented environment.
* Recognised trade qualifications—a must for this hands-on leadership role.
* Tertiary qualifications in electrical or mechanical engineering—highly regarded and a strong advantage.
* Experience in large-scale hotel engineering operations, with a solid understanding of the standards and expectations of a premium hospitality environment.
* A proven track record of managing major CAPEX projects, from planning through to execution.
* Strong leadership and team-building skills, with the ability to motivate, coach, and support diverse teams.
* Familiarity with PMS platforms (Opera preferred) and confidence using Microsoft Office Suite.
* Exceptional communication skills, both written and verbal, with a strong command of English.
* Experience handling administrative responsibilities including budgeting, reporting, and performance management.
* A collaborative, solutions-focused approach with prior experience supervising engineering or maintenance teams.
