The Head of Junior School is a member of the College Executive Team.

The Head of Junior School is responsible to the Headmaster and is expected to contribute to planning for the future as well as managing significant aspects of the daily life of the Junior School.

The Head of Junior School, in conjunction with the other members of the Executive, articulates a vision for educational excellence; establishes a learning environment that is characterised by organisation, confidence, persistence and support, and works with staff, parents and the community to implement the College's strategic agenda within Prep to Year 12.

Informed by the strong traditions of the College, the Head of Junior School oversees the teaching and learning program, including feedback and reporting, as well as the student welfare program. The Head of Junior School responsively sets benchmarks for performance and the achievement of challenging goals, and models continuous learning and performance improvement.

The key responsibilities of the Head of Junior School may be modified from time to time to ensure outcomes are coordinated with the Executive and the College's strategic direction.

The Head of Junior School will be responsible for Prep to Year 6. The Deputy Heads of Junior School support the Head of Junior School.

The Head of Junior School's Role encompasses the following responsibilities:

Strengthen the Christian climate on campus and ensure that the College's stated Christian values underpin all activities of the College.

Maintain an Exceptional Learning Environment: Foster a teaching and learning atmosphere that ensures each student receives the highest quality education.

Prioritise Student Welfare: Oversee student enrolment, welfare, and discipline, always prioritising the best interests of the students.

Engage with the College Community: Foster genuine engagement with the College community and stakeholders through effective communication.

Providing effective leadership and management of the Junior School

Manage Student, Staff, Parent matters

Junior School Annual Operational Plan, planning and reporting cycle

Oversee curriculum in P-6

Join the Head of Senior School and Head of Middle School to lead the active collaboration between teachers of primary and secondary classes in the College.

Junior School implementation of Teaching & Learning Framework (P-6)

Contribute to Sub Committee meetings – Education

Develop strategic and operational plans for the Junior School within the College's Strategic Plan, particularly but not exclusively within teaching and learning, curriculum, student welfare and reporting on outcomes.

Hold Advanced Qualifications: Possess appropriate post-graduate university qualifications.

Teaching and Learning

Promote the strategic focus of the College within teaching and learning and curriculum, upon quality teaching for continued improvement in teaching pedagogy and in student outcomes.

Approve, monitor and supervise the teaching programs in the Junior School.

Generate appropriate and useful data from these various tests; analysing the data for informed decision-making and for taking actions towards improved outcomes for individual students and for groups of students.

Establish, supervise and review all forms of student assessment within the teaching and learning programs of the Junior School, National and State testing, competitions, etc.

Actively supporting the co-curricular programmes of the Junior School, as being able to add value to the learning opportunities the College offers students.

Build Relationships: Cultivate strong, positive relationships with students, staff, parents, and the wider community.

Collaborative Approach: Foster a collaborative environment where teamwork and shared goals are prioritised.

Embrace Technology: Demonstrate proficiency with modern educational technologies and integrate them into the learning environment to enhance educational outcomes.

Innovate with Technology: Encourage the use of technology to foster innovation and improve administrative efficiency.

Engage with the Community: Actively participate in community events and build strong partnerships with local organisations and stakeholders.

Promote the School: Advocate for and promote the College's achievements, values, and programs within the broader community.

Mandatory Requirements

Registration or eligibility for registration as a teacher in Queensland.

Hold Advanced Qualifications: Possess appropriate post‐graduate university qualifications.

SC1 Highly developed competence and capacity to provide educational leadership within the context of Ormiston College's Strategic Plan.

SC2 High level of ability, knowledge and capacity to lead and to support staff to achieve excellent student learning outcomes through the adoption of quality teaching and learning practices and accountability processes.

SC3 Highly developed communication and presentation skills in a wide variety of contexts.

SC4 Effective and efficient management and use of resources to achieve agreed educational goals.

SC5 High-level capacity and skill in establishing and developing effective and productive interpersonal relationships to achieve positive outcomes.

SC6 Awareness of and proven capacity to lead within a dynamic educational landscape.
