We are seeking an experienced Senior Legal Officer to join our in‑house Legal team in Canberra. In this pivotal role, you’ll provide high‑quality legal advice and support across a diverse range of areas, including contract law, corporate and commercial law, employment law, privacy law, intellectual property, and healthcare regulation.
About The Role
Reporting to the General Counsel, you will provide high‑quality legal advice and support across contract, corporate, commercial, employment, privacy, and healthcare law. You will play a key role in identifying and managing legal and compliance risks, drafting and negotiating contracts, and advising on regulatory matters that impact Aspen Medical’s operations.
Key Responsibilities
- Provide timely, practical legal advice to internal stakeholders on a broad range of legal matters.
- Draft, review and negotiate commercial contracts and agreements in line with strategic risk thresholds.
- Identify and manage legal and compliance risks under relevant legislation and industry standards.
- Monitor and interpret legal and regulatory changes, supporting implementation where required.
- Support governance, compliance, and internal policy projects across the organisation.
- Liaise with Australian regulatory bodies including OAIC, ASIC, AHPRA and AHRC.
- Maintain accurate legal records in LawVu and ensure compliance with internal processes.
- Bachelor of Laws or Juris Doctor (Australia or equivalent).
- Current or eligible Australian practising certificate.
- Minimum 7+ years PQE in private practice or in‑house, with experience in commercial, regulatory, IP, or contract law.
- Excellent communication, analytical, and negotiation skills.
- Strong business acumen and ability to work both autonomously and collaboratively in a fast‑paced environment.
- High attention to detail and strong time management skills.
About You
- Bachelor of Laws or Juris Doctor (Australia or equivalent).
- Current or eligible Australian practising certificate.
- Minimum 7+ years PQE in private practice or in‑house, with experience in commercial, regulatory, IP, or contract law.
- Excellent communication, analytical, and negotiation skills.
- Strong business acumen and ability to work both autonomously and collaboratively in a fast‑paced environment.
- High attention to detail and strong time management skills.
Desirable
- Experience in the healthcare industry.
- Familiarity with tenders, RFTs, and healthcare regulatory frameworks.
- Eligibility for a security clearance.
