A major bank is seeking a Lead Site Reliability Azure Engineer to join their team on an initial 12 month contract likely to extend or go permanent after. Role can be based in Sydney or Melbourne. This is a newly created role where the organisation is launching a new Azure Managed Service offering and you will own the end-to-end reliability of the managed services. Once a service is live, you will be its ultimate reliability owner, driving improvements to prevent future incidents
Responsibilities
* Develop, own, and enforce the master Production Readiness Checklist (PRC)
* Own and optimize the reliability, availability, and performance of Azure-hosted production systems.
* Serve as the final technical sign-off for all new services, with authority to block releases that fail to meet operational standards.
* Act as the highest technical escalation point (L3/L4) for critical, complex production incidents.
* Work with delivery teams to ensure systems are operable, not just functional.
* Mentor and upskill SRE team members; influence engineering culture across the organization.
Key Skills / Experience
* Expert experience in Site Reliability/ Senior DevOps Engineer with direct responsibility for production availability
* Deep Azure Operations Expertise: Hands‑on experience with Azure Monitor, Log Analytics, Azure Policy, Azure Security Center, and Azure Backup/Site Recovery
* Elite‑Level Troubleshooting: Proven ability to resolve complex, live production incidents under pressure across the full stack.
* Strong scripting/automation skills
* Proven experience running production workloads in containerized environments
