About the role
We are seeking a skilled and compassionate Domestic and Family Violence Worker (Victims Advocate) to join our Cairns team on a part-time basis (37.5 hours / fortnight).
Working in close collaboration with the SFV Men's program and Women and Children's services, you will provide risk assessment, safety planning, advocacy, and ongoing support to victim-survivors, while contributing to a coordinated, accountable response to domestic and family violence.
In this role, you will work directly with victim-survivors and their children, while also partnering with facilitators, safety meetings, and external agencies to ensure victim safety and voices remain prioritised throughout the men's intervention process.
Additionally, you will:
Engage and build trusting relationships with clients, promoting voluntary and ongoing engagement.
Conduct comprehensive intakes and assessments to determine appropriate service responses, referrals, and support plans in partnership with victim-survivors.
Develop, implement, and regularly review safety plans for victim-survivors and their children.
Advocate with external agencies including police, courts, child safety, and specialist DFV services.
Communicate relevant safety information to SFV facilitators and Safety Meetings, as negotiated with the victim-survivor.
Provide limited crisis support and facilitate referrals to specialist services as required.
Promote the prevention of domestic and family violence through community education and engagement.
About you
You are a trauma-informed, values-driven practitioner with a strong commitment to supporting victim-survivors of domestic and family violence.
You bring a collaborative approach, excellent communication skills, and the ability to navigate complex systems while keeping safety at the centre of your practice.
You are confident working alongside perpetrator intervention services, understand the dynamics of domestic and family violence, and can balance advocacy with accountability and risk management.
Additionally, you have:
Degree qualifications in a human services related field and/or relevant industry experience.
Membership of a relevant professional body (or eligibility to apply).
Experience providing advocacy, information, counselling, crisis intervention and referrals to victim-survivors and families affected by domestic and family violence.
Strong understanding of domestic and family violence and its impacts on victim-survivors and children.
Knowledge of the men's behaviour change process and perpetrator accountability.
Understanding of the Domestic and Family Violence Protection Act **** and relevant legislation.

The salary is being offered between $87,000 to $102,****** per annum, to be negotiated depending upon qualifications and experience, plus superannuation.
