Role Overview

The Department of Energy, Mines, Industry Regulation and Safety is seeking a qualified Lawyer to join their team. This role will involve providing legal advice to departmental clients, conducting litigation, and appearing as counsel.

As a Lawyer in this role, you will have the opportunity to contribute to the development and implementation of policies and procedures, work collaboratively with other teams, and participate in ongoing professional development opportunities.

Key Responsibilities

The successful candidate will be responsible for:

* Providing legal advice to departmental clients on a range of matters including industry regulation, consumer protection, building and energy, and labour relations;
* Conducting straightforward litigation, including trial counsel, with a focus on industry regulation and consumer protection, building and energy, and labour relations;
* Preparing a variety of legal documents, including court submissions, briefs, and contracts;
* Appearing as counsel in court proceedings;
* Participating in ongoing professional development opportunities to stay up-to-date with relevant legislation and best practices;

The ideal candidate will have excellent communication and interpersonal skills, be able to work well under pressure, and possess strong analytical and problem-solving skills.

Required Skills and Qualifications

To be considered for this role, applicants must possess:

* A degree in Law from a recognized university;
* A current Australian practising certificate that enables the holder to engage in legal practice as a government legal practitioner or eligible to obtain one prior to commencement of employment;
* Strong analytical and problem-solving skills;
* Excellent communication and interpersonal skills;
* Ability to work well under pressure;
* Strong attention to detail and ability to meet deadlines;
* Ability to work collaboratively with other teams and stakeholders;

The successful candidate will also require a satisfactory security clearance and undergo a thorough background check.
