Rebuilding Shattered Lives – Supporting people of refugee background to recover from torture and other traumatic events
The Victorian Foundation for Survivors of Torture (Foundation House) delivers specialist trauma‐focused services that work with the strengths and resilience of refugees, their families and communities to rebuild lives shattered by torture and other traumatic events.
About the Role
A part‐time (0.4 EFT), ongoing position within a values‐based organisation. The role will be based in our Brunswick office, which offers free onsite parking and is close to public transport.
Salary: $105,340 (pro‐rata to 0.4 EFT) plus superannuation and annual leave loading, and NFP salary packaging.
Key Responsibilities
* Act as Return‐to‐Work Coordinator to support staff in remaining at work or returning safely and sustainably following injury or illness.
* Manage WorkCover claims and collaborate with finance to monitor and report on WorkCover expenditure.
* Oversee the reporting, monitoring and management of workplace health and safety incidents, ensuring investigations are completed, corrective actions identified and follow‐up actions reviewed.
* Support the organisation in meeting obligations under the Occupational Health and Safety (Managing Psychosocial Hazards) Regulations 2021 (Vic) by assisting managers to identify, assess and control psychosocial hazards.
* Assist in the development, implementation and review of psychosocial risk assessments and control measures, ensuring alignment with legislation, WorkSafe guidance and organisational policies.
* Develop and deliver occupational health and safety training for staff and managers, covering incident management, risk management, hazard identification, psychosocial risk awareness and safe work procedures.
* Deliver occupational health and safety induction programmes to ensure staff and managers understand their safety responsibilities and obligations.
Qualifications
* Prior experience providing practical occupational health and safety advice within a not‐for‐profit or comparable environment, supporting compliance with Victorian OHS and workers' compensation legislation.
* Proven ability to support managers in identifying, assessing and managing workplace hazards, conducting risk assessments, investigating incidents and implementing corrective actions within policies, procedures and legislative frameworks.
* Experience managing WorkCover claims and supporting return‐to‐work and injury management processes, liaising with employees, managers, insurers and stakeholders to achieve safe and sustainable outcomes.
* Background in developing and delivering OHS training and induction activities for staff and managers, including content related to psychosocial risk awareness, safe work practices and wellbeing in trauma‐exposed roles.
* Well‐developed interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to provide clear, practical advice and build cooperative relationships with staff and managers across teams and programs.
* Ability to maintain accurate occupational health and safety records, analyse incident and safety data (including psychosocial risk indicators), prepare reports and contribute to continuous improvement initiatives.
* Demonstrated ability to exercise professional judgement, manage competing priorities and work under general direction while contributing positively to a team‐based, values‐driven organisation.

Appointment to the position is subject to a satisfactory National Police Check, Working with Children Check and Reference Check process.
