We're opening a brand-new Black Market Training & Espresso Bar in Newcastle — and we're looking for an exceptional Barista Trainer & Mentor to lead the espresso bar and training experience from day one.
This is a hands-on, leadership role for someone who loves great coffee, thrives in a busy café environment, and genuinely enjoys helping others level up their skills.
You'll manage the day-to-day espresso bar, deliver and evolve our training programs, and play a key role in shaping the next generation of baristas in the Hunter region.

The Role
As our Barista Trainer & Mentor, you'll sit at the intersection of café leadership and education.
You'll be responsible for:
* Managing the espresso bar and day-to-day training operations
* Delivering all Black Market barista training programs to a professional standard
* Mentoring students and café trainees from beginner through to advanced
* Upholding Black Market coffee, service, and training benchmarks at all times
This role is full-time (Tuesday–Saturday) and based at our new Newcastle location.
Key Responsibilities
Training & Education
* Deliver barista courses in line with Black Market standards and benchmarks
* Run Foundation, Latte Art, Professional, private and corporate training sessions
* Develop lesson plans, slide decks, and learning resources
* Assess students, provide structured feedback, and issue certificates
* Prepare students for real commercial café environments
* Collect feedback and reviews from learners and employers
Espresso Bar & Operations
* Manage the espresso bar during training and public service hours
* Ensure equipment, training spaces and café areas are clean, organised and service-ready
* Oversee stock takes and ordering (coffee, milk, alt-milks, chocolate, chai, etc.)
* Maintain retail display and presentation standards
* Support walk-in training enquiries and course bookings
Quality & Standards
* Deliver consistently high-quality coffee to Black Market benchmarks
* Ensure all baristas and trainees can work to commercial speed and accuracy
* Maintain service time standards
* Ensure strong product knowledge: roast dates, origin, processing, tasting notes and extraction
* Maintain latte art standards across all drinks
* Use fresh coffee and uphold all in-house quality controls
Mentoring & Team Support
* Provide on-the-floor coaching and post-shift feedback to trainees
* Support progression from station to station in café environments
* Assist with large group training and corporate events when required
About You
Experience
* Proven experience delivering barista training
* Strong background working in fast-paced, high-volume cafés

What We Offer
* $70,000–$80,000 + super (based on experience)
