About Us
The South Australian Metropolitan Fire Service (MFS) is responsible for protecting the South Australian community from the effects of fire, road crashes, chemical incidents, and other emergencies. We are a team of approximately 1,300 operational personnel and corporate professionals serving the community across 20 metropolitan and 17 regional fire stations.
About the Role
The Senior Return to Work Coordinator is responsible for the effective delivery of return to work services, systems and processes for both operational and non-operational employees of the MFS.
Reporting to the Manager, Industrial and Employee Relations, this senior specialist role provides expert advice and leadership in managing complex and high-risk injury matters. The position plays a critical role in ensuring early intervention, safe and sustainable return to work outcomes, and compliance with the Return to Work Act 2014 and government performance standards.
Deliver effective, safe and compliant return to work outcomes in accordance with legislation and government performance standards.
Proactively manage a complex and high-risk return to work caseload.
Assess injured worker needs and develop, implement, monitor and review tailored recovery and return to work plans.
Coordinate and actively contribute to multidisciplinary case conferences and complex early intervention processes.
Provide expert advice to managers and employees on return to work and claims processes, rights and responsibilities.
Manage sensitive and complex matters with industrial and legal components, including liaising with unions and legal representatives.
Contribute to the development, review and continuous improvement of return to work policies, procedures and systems.
Establish and maintain auditing, reporting and performance monitoring processes to ensure compliance with government performance standards.
Develop and deliver training and education to managers and supervisors to support best practice return to work outcomes.
Represent MFS in disputed return to work matters, including proceedings before the SA Employment Tribunal.
About You
To be successful in this role, we're looking for someone who is:
* Highly experienced in return to work and injury management, including complex and high-risk cases.
* Knowledgeable in the Return to Work Act 2014, associated regulations and government performance standards.
* Confident interpreting and applying medical and legal information in injury management contexts.
* An excellent communicator, able to provide clear, professional and sensitive advice to a wide range of stakeholders.
* Highly organised, able to manage competing priorities and work with minimal supervision.
* Skilled at building strong, collaborative relationships across operational, corporate and external environments.
