Primary objective
This position will support the development and delivery of a range of youth engagement projects and initiatives through planning
with key strategic partners, coordination and reporting to ensure the diverse voices and experiences of Northern Territory students
and young people are captured and used to shape departmental policy and practices.

Context statement
Student Attendance and Engagement Programs and Services are responsible for the implementation and management of a range
of Australian and Northern Territory Government initiatives, focused on student attendance and engagement in schooling or other
eligible options, leading to improved school enrolment and attendance rates in the Northern Territory.

Key duties and responsibilities
1. Research, consult, develop, and support the development and delivery of youth voice and student engagements programs and

initiatives.
2. Conduct quantitative and qualitative data collection, research, and analysis to inform strategic direction, policy and program

evaluation.
3. Ensure effective governance of program evaluations, utilising project management methodology including the development of

evaluation plans.
4. Development and organisation of large group activities and forums.
5. Prepare and provide strategic and practical advice on submissions, briefings, reports, policy/discussion documents and

correspondence.
6. Manage workloads relating to multiple and complex projects/programs whilst meeting tight deadlines in an environment that

is subject to rapid change.
7. Develop and maintain effective relationships and collaborative partnerships with a wide range of strategic stakeholders and

partners to support effective program development and delivery.

Selection criteria
Essential
1. Demonstrated experience in project and/or program development and delivery within a youth/education/community

engagement context.
2. Demonstrated ability to monitor delivery against program objectives, key performance indicators and success criteria, including

ability to investigate, manage and report on issues impacting on program/project objectives with recommend mediation
strategies in place.

3. Highly developed written and oral communications skills with experience in gathering and investigating information from
diverse sources, exploring new ideas and different viewpoints.

4. Demonstrated ability to work with a high level of autonomy and accountability, manage pressure in an environment of change
and continuous improvement, and modify approaches to suit stakeholder requirements.

5. Demonstrated ability to confidently build and maintain effective networks, undertake consultation and liaison with a range of
internal and external stakeholder including interacting effectively with people from diverse cultures and backgrounds.

6. Willingness to undertake regional and remote travel at various times throughout the year.

Desirable
1. Tertiary qualifications relevant to the position. e.g. social or public policy, youth services, education.
2. Knowledge of education systems and the strategic directions and objectives of the Department of Education and Northern

Territory Government.

The occupant of this position must have/be able to obtain a Working with Children Clearance (Ochre Card) and drivers licence.
