The Opportunity
A national, multi-disciplinary consultancy is expanding its Waste Engineering capability on the East Coast and is seeking a Senior / Principal Waste Engineer to lead and grow this service line from Brisbane.
This role blends technical leadership with project delivery and team management. You’ll be a key contributor across major waste infrastructure projects while supporting business growth, mentoring staff, and working closely with clients and stakeholders.
Key Responsibilities
* Provide technical leadership on landfill and waste infrastructure projects
* Contribute to the design of lining systems, capping solutions, gas, leachate, and surface water management
* Lead design input for transfer stations and recycling facilities, including civil works, drainage, structures, and traffic layouts
* Manage feasibility studies, capacity modelling, and staging strategies
* Coordinate site investigations, inspections, and geotechnical inputs
* Prepare design documentation, specifications, BOQs, and risk assessments
* Support tendering, procurement, and contract administration processes
* Oversee construction quality assurance and superintendent functions
* Lead and mentor designers, modellers, and junior engineers
* Assist with project management and business development initiatives
About You
* Degree-qualified in Civil, Environmental, Geotechnical Engineering, or similar
* 5+ years’ experience delivering waste management or comparable infrastructure projects
* Strong background in landfill design and waste facilities
* Experience with construction quality assurance and site supervision
* Proven capability leading design teams and managing projects
* Exposure to earthworks, drainage, roads, and public works projects
* Strong reporting, documentation, and communication skills
* Practical experience with AutoCAD and similar design tools
* Commercial mindset with interest in growing client relationships
