Aboriginal Family Legal Services – Geraldton WA
The Aboriginal Family Legal Services (WA) provides a holistic, culturally trauma-informed legal and non-legal support service to Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander victims and families affected by family violence.
The successful applicant reports directly to the Director of Legal.
We are looking for solicitors who are passionate and committed to working in a dynamic and diverse holistic legal service, working with clients, communities and families affected by family violence.
We provide and represent families and victims in various areas of law, including Family Law, Family Violence Restraining Orders, Child Protection Matters, Criminal Injuries Compensation, and other various matters.
You will have the opportunity of working collaboratively with a team of both legal and non-legal staff, to ensure clients receive a holistic service, whilst also having the skills and abilities to work autonomously.
This role would suit someone who is passionate about social justice and working in the community, has strong legal and communication skills, is able to liaise with a diverse range of stakeholders/clients and can provide good sound legal and practical advice.
You will have the opportunity to work across a diverse range of cases, including Duty Lawyer Services, shuttle conferencing services and delivering Community Legal Education.
Responsibilities
Providing sound legal advice to clients in a range of areas of law
Casework
Managing client files
Drafting correspondence and Court documents
Appearing in various Courts throughout Western Australia
Representing clients in mediations and other forms of ADR
Delivering Community Legal Education
Working closely with non-legal staff

Salary packaging up to $15,****** per annum (which increases your take home salary amount)

Qualifications
Be admitted for Practice in the Supreme Court of WA and have a current legal practicing certificate from the Legal Practice Board of Western Australia, pursuant to the Legal Profession Act **** (WA)
Experience in either family law, care and protection matters, criminal injuries compensation or family violence restraining orders
Excellent communication skills including oral and written
Demonstrated ability to develop and maintain effective working relationships with stakeholders
Demonstrated ability of working as part of a team with legal and non-legal staff
Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively and sensitively with Aboriginal people
Able to travel to remote areas to deliver services to clients and the community
Knowledge of and/or experience in working in the community legal services sector.
Experience in Court
Experience in family law, care and protection matters, criminal injuries compensation and family violence restraining orders
