About the Opportunity

The University of Tasmania seeks a post‐doctoral researcher to undertake experimental fluid dynamics research into propulsor performance. The position is funded by Defence Science and Technology Group (DSTG) and is based in the Cavitation Research Laboratory at the Newnham Campus. The appointee will research propulsor performance and noise, work on project‐based research tasks, contribute to the development of experimental capabilities, and supervise undergraduate and postgraduate students within the Centre for Maritime Engineering and Hydrodynamics at the Australian Maritime College.

What You'll Do
* Make an effective and sustained contribution to the University in achieving its strategic objectives and fulfilling its operational responsibilities.
* Undertake high‐quality research in turbulent, multi‐phase and cavitating flow physics and how these relate to fluid‐structure interactions, acoustics and overall performance of maritime platforms. These activities will include:
o Conducting research, from conception of ideas, through execution of laboratory experiments, data analysis, and communication of results.
o Contribute to the successful supervision of research higher degree students.
* Contribute to the development and maintenance of productive and effective links inside the University and locally, nationally and internationally with the discipline, relevant interdisciplinary domains, profession, industry and/or wider community.
* Work cooperatively with academic and professional staff on research, technical and administrative tasks.
What We're Looking For
* A PhD in a relevant science or engineering discipline.
* A demonstrated understanding of, commitment to, and enthusiasm for, research in the field of fluid mechanics.
* Demonstrated ability to perform experimental measurements in fluid mechanics research.
* Ability to work effectively as part of a team to conduct and report on scientific research.
* A good record of, and continuing commitment to, research that has achieved national recognition.
* Worthwhile contributions to the field of fluid mechanics as demonstrated by a record of quality publications and presentations at conferences.
* Demonstrated written and oral communication skills and interpersonal skills.
Salary details

Appointment to this role will be at Academic Level B and will have a total remuneration package of up to $155,885 comprising base salary within the range of $114,766 to $133,235 plus 17% superannuation.
