Your new company
You'll be joining a large federal government agency at the forefront of major national service delivery. Your new role
As the Lead Mainframe Data Engineer, you will design, build, and optimise mainframe data pipelines supporting large‑scale data warehouse and analytics environments. You'll work with complex datasets, develop SAS and JCL solutions, improve data quality and integrity, and provide technical leadership across data engineering standards, modelling, governance, and integration. You'll also mentor junior engineers and drive continuous improvement initiatives across the data function.
Key duties and responsibilities
Duties may include some or all of the following:
Develop, test, and maintain SAS programs for data extraction, transformation, and reporting.Collaborate with business analysts and subject-matter experts to translate requirements into technical solutions.Optimise mainframe data pipelines for performance and efficiency.Ensure compliance with data governance, privacy, and security requirements.Produce clear documentation for code, processes, and data workflows.Provide technical advice and mentoring to junior engineers.Contribute to continuous improvement initiatives in data analytics and reporting.Ability to work with large, complex datasets and perform advanced data thinking and problem-solving skills.Strong written and verbal communication skills.Ability to work independently and manage competing prioritiesTechnical skills

What you'll need to succeed
You will bring strong SAS Base/Macro/SQL expertise, deep experience across IBM mainframe environments (JCL, DB2, Control‑M, SCLM), and the ability to work with large datasets in complex enterprise settings. You'll demonstrate senior‑level capability in data engineering, data management, modelling, BI, quality assurance, and integration. Strong analytical thinking, documentation skills, stakeholder engagement, and the ability to work autonomously are essential. Baseline clearance is required.
