AO6 Senior Communications Advisor
Contract to 2028 | QLD State Government | Sunshine Coast Location
We are currently seeking an experienced Senior Communications Advisor to join our client within the Queensland State Government on a long-term infrastructure project based on the Sunshine Coast.
This is a rare opportunity to take on a pivotal role supporting a major transport infrastructure initiative. The successful candidate will lead strategic communication and community engagement efforts to build strong stakeholder relationships and foster public understanding of the project.
Position Overview
Location: Buderim, QLD
Duration: 19 May 2025 – 12 May 2028
Classification: AO6
Rate: $77.02 – $82.40 per hour + super (commensurate with experience)
Work hours: Up to 38 hours per week, flexible arrangements in place

Key Responsibilities
* Develop and implement strategic communication plans aligned with project goals
* Lead community engagement activities, including public consultations
* Deliver clear, timely and targeted messaging across channels including media, newsletters, social media and project updates
* Provide expert advice and support to senior leadership and project teams
* Manage issues and crisis communications effectively
* Prepare high-level briefing notes, speeches and presentations
* Monitor media coverage and public sentiment to inform strategy
* Mentor communication staff and contribute to a collaborative team environment
* Evaluate communication activities and report on engagement outcomes
Mandatory Requirements
* Minimum five (5) years’ experience in a communications and community engagement role, preferably within infrastructure, construction, or government
* International Association of Public Participation (IAP2) Certification, or willingness to obtain independently
Desirable Criteria
* Degree in communications, public relations, journalism or marketing
* Class C Driver’s Licence
* Strong writing, editing and presentation skills
* Demonstrated experience managing stakeholders at all levels
* Understanding of Infrastructure Sustainability Council of Australia (ISCA) framework
