You will be part of the Inverell Hospital Administration Team – a small, cohesive, and supportive group that takes immense pride in the patient-centred customer service they provide. Inverell Hospital is a busy Rural District Hospital, comprising an Emergency Department, Renal Dialysis Unit, In-Patient Unit, Maternity, and Surgical Services. Our vibrant workforce includes students, assistants in nursing, enrolled nurses, registered nurses, midwives, and administration professionals.

The Opportunity

We are seeking a detail-oriented and motivated Clinical Coder / Health Information Officer to join our Administration Team. This vital role supports the accurate coding of clinical documentation and ensures compliance with medico-legal and record management requirements.

Key Responsibilities
* Achieve and maintain coding and DRG accuracy, meeting coding KPIs aligned with district guidelines.
* Record daily coding activity statistics and review/correct clinical coding errors and quality indicators (PICQ).
* Assist with the retrieval, preparation, and scanning of medical records into the DMR system.
* Manage Release of Information requests per NSW Health and legislative requirements.
* Coordinate responses to Chapter 16A requests (Child Protection and High-Risk Birth alerts) with the IVANS team.
* Facilitate the provision of medical statements to agencies such as NSW Police and the NSW Coroner.
* Respond to requests from Government commissions of enquiry, the HCCC, and Clinical Governance teams.

About You

We are looking for candidates who:
* Work cooperatively in a team and independently when required.
* Plan, prioritise, and organise their workload effectively.
* Demonstrate attention to detail and strong customer service skills.
* Exhibit excellent communication and relationship-building skills (non-negotiable).
* Successful completion of a recognised clinical coding qualification (e.g. HIMAA) or a Health Information Management degree and/or significant coding experience in a hospital
* Are competent users of various software and computer programs.
* Understand client/customer needs and provide exceptional service.
* Display a professional telephone manner and sound judgment.

Support and Development

You will be supported by the Hospital Services Manager, the Nurse Unit Managers of each department, and the Health Information Manager. A full orientation program will be provided, ensuring a smooth transition into the role. Additionally, you will benefit from ongoing education through our on-site educators and participate in clinical coding quality initiatives, including targeted coder education sessions.
