If you enjoy solving complex problems, turning creative concepts into manufacturable reality, and bringing order to chaos, this role is built for you.
Mechanical Design Engineer – Bespoke Linear Lighting Division
We're looking for a Mechanical Design Engineer who thrives in a fast‑paced environment where no two projects are the same. You'll be part of our bespoke linear lighting division, designing unique solutions for major commercial and infrastructure projects across Australia.
This isn't a "draw and handover" design role. You'll work end‑to‑end balancing creativity and production feasibility, ensuring every concept not only looks exceptional but can be manufactured efficiently without slowing down our production line. If you love engineering with constraints, material science, and making ideas workable in the real world, you'll excel here.
Why This Role Is Different
* You'll design custom, inventive lighting solutions seen in real commercial spaces and large‑scale architectural projects.
* You'll work closely with industrial designers, production, engineers, and project teams—turning creative ideas into practical, manufacturable designs.
* You'll have real influence: your design decisions directly affect performance, manufacturability, cost efficiency, and production flow.
* You'll bring structure to complexity, helping organise drawings, project files, categories, and workflows in a high‑velocity project environment.
* You'll deepen your expertise in materials, metal properties, and best‑in‑class fabrication techniques .
This is the perfect role for someone who loves blending design, engineering, problem‑solving, and production logic .
What You'll Be Doing
* Design and develop bespoke mechanical components and lighting systems for unique projects.
* Create precise technical drawings, 3D models, specifications and BOMs using CAD (SolidWorks/AutoCAD).
* Engineer solutions that balance creativity with manufacturability—ensuring designs do not disrupt production flow.
* Apply strong knowledge of metal properties, tolerances, thermal behaviour, and fabrication constraints .
* Collaborate with industrial designers to align aesthetics with engineering practicality.
* Work closely with manufacturing teams to optimise for assembly, tooling, extrusion, bending, machining, and fabrication.
* Participate in prototyping, testing, and iterative refinement cycles.
* Categorise and structure project files, drawings, and documentation to streamline workflows.
* Identify issues early, troubleshoot quickly, and propose elegant, feasible solutions.
* Keep up with new materials, technologies, processes, and trends in the lighting and mechanical engineering space.
What You Bring
* Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering or related field.
* 4+ years' industry experience —lighting experience a strong advantage, but not essential.
* Proven mechanical design experience with a strong understanding of metal materials and manufacturing processes .
* Solid proficiency in CAD (SolidWorks, AutoCAD, or similar).
* Ability to engineer creative solutions within technical and manufacturing boundaries.
* Strong attention to detail, accuracy, and design integrity.
* Ability to work collaboratively in a multidisciplinary team.
* Organised, structured, and able to bring order to multiple fast‑moving projects.
* Excellent communication skills and ability to explain concepts to both technical and non‑technical stakeholders.
What's On Offer
* Career Growth: Join a global business with genuine development pathways and continuous learning opportunities.
* Mobility Program: Explore internal career paths, new challenges, and international opportunities.
* Positive Work Environment: Supportive, inclusive, and built on respect, safety, and collaboration.
* Open Communication: Your input matters—ideas flow freely in every direction.
* Shared Purpose: Help drive sustainable innovation and a cleaner future through advanced lighting solutions.
* Strong Team Culture: Friendly, diverse, and united by trust and collaboration.
* Wellbeing & Benefits: EAP support, partner discounts, bonus scheme, additional parental leave, and more.
