The General Manager (GM) reports directly to the CEO and is accountable for the day-to-day leadership, operational performance, financial sustainability, and safety outcomes of Sydney Flight College at both Tamworth and Bankstown bases. The GM ensures that training delivery, safety, customer engagement, and operational efficiency meet the standards set by the CEO and the Board.
Key Responsibilities of the GM
1. Strategic & Operational Leadership
* Deliver the strategic and operational priorities set by the CEO.
* Provide leadership across daily operations, including training, maintenance, safety, facilities, and student services.
* Ensure decisions support long‑term organisational sustainability and strong student outcomes.
* Oversee flight scheduling, instructor capacity, and aircraft utilisation.
2. Financial & Business Management
* Work with the CFO on budgeting, forecasting, cost control, and financial reporting to the CEO.
* Monitor financial performance and identify efficiency opportunities without compromising safety.
3. Safety, Risk & Compliance
* Champion the CEO's safety expectations through strong SMS practices.
* Maintain compliance with CASA, ASQA, and all regulatory requirements.
* Work with the HOO and SM to implement new SOPs and ensure corrective actions are completed promptly and effectively.
4. Customer, Stakeholder & Community Engagement
* Safeguard a high‑quality student experience throughout the training lifecycle.
* Represent the College on behalf of the CEO when engaging with regulators, industry partners, and community stakeholders.
* Manage student and customer issues professionally, ensuring timely resolution and transparent communication.
Eligibility & Qualification Requirements
* Proven leadership experience in aviation, vocational training, or a related operational environment.
* Strong understanding of CASA, ASQA, and SMS requirements, with demonstrated experience managing safety and regulatory compliance.
* Commercial and financial management capability, including budgeting, forecasting, and performance reporting.
* Experience leading multi‑disciplinary teams and managing complex operational environments.
* Highly developed communication and stakeholder engagement skills, with the ability to represent the organisation professionally.
* Ability to problem‑solve, make sound operational decisions, and balance safety, quality, and financial performance.
* Relevant tertiary qualifications in aviation, business management, or a related field (desirable).
* Minimum 5 years experience in aviation operations management.
* Commercial Pilot Licence/ Airline Transport Pilot Licence (desirable).

SFC was born as Schofields Flying Club Ltd. and has grown to be the largest flying club in NSW. The club has had a proud history of flying operations over 56 years, with flight training and club flying as its core activities. SFC Pilot Academy Tamworth was born in 2023 with the growth of SFC in the last 20 years.
Sydney Flight College was introduced by the club in 2001 with a variety of academic accreditations. With continuing growth, the club now distinguishes its training, charter, and club activities as a family of SFC names. SFC Pilot Academy Tamworth, Sydney Flying Club and Sydney Flight Charter are newer faces to the business now continuing the proud heritage of Schofields Flying Club Limited.
