Position Snapshot: 
Atwell is seeking a PV & BESS (Battery Energy Storage Systems) Design Manager to lead the technical design and execution of our utility-scale solar and BESS projects. 
As the PV & BESS Design Manager, you will lead a team of engineers and designers, providing technical oversight, design strategy, and innovation in solar PV and BESS system design. 
You will collaborate closely with Project Managers, EPC partners, and internal teams to ensure efficient project execution from feasibility to construction. 
This position also involves mentoring junior staff, optimizing internal processes, and driving continuous improvement in design methodologies and software applications. 
Responsibilities: 
Oversee and lead the engineering design and modeling of utility-scale, ground-mounted Solar PV and BESS projects with a focus on optimizing performance, driving cost efficiency, and maximizing project profitability 
Direct the development and review of engineering drawings, site layouts, and electrical schematics using industry-standard tools such as AutoCAD, PVCase, and PVSyst to support grid interconnection, permitting, and early-stage feasibility 
Manage and refine internal design workflows while serving as a primary technical liaison for client-facing coordination, leading high-level internal and external project meetings 
Review and approve complex construction documents, ensuring technical accuracy, alignment with contractual requirements, and adherence to industry best practices and applicable codes 
Provide strategic technical oversight during pre-construction and early execution phases, partnering cross-functionally with permitting, procurement, development, and finance teams to align engineering decisions with project goals 
Remain at the forefront of emerging solar and BESS technologies, regulatory changes, and industry design methodologies to inform organizational strategy and ensure regulatory compliance 
Contribute to high-level technical reports, due diligence reviews, and feasibility assessments for internal executive teams and external stakeholders, including investors and regulatory bodies 
Mentor, develop, and grow multidisciplinary engineering and design teams, fostering a culture of technical excellence, innovation, and operational consistency across all renewable energy projects 
Qualifications: 
Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering or a related field; a PE license is highly preferred 
Minimum of twelve (12) years of professional experience in Renewable Energy, with a primary focus on utility-scale Solar PV and BESS facilities 
Experience with energy storage in both utility-scale and/or large industrial facilities, including the following design aspects: battery technology/chemistry selection, battery sizing, one-line development, site layout, inverter selection, cable ampacity calculations, grounding, protective relaying, and associated systems design and construction administration 
Proven experience managing and developing large teams, with a passion for talent development, mentorship, and collaboration with recruiting 
Strong strategic planning and business development skills, including experience in annual business planning and driving revenue growth 
Proficiency in Solar PV modeling software and other relevant technical tools 
Familiarity with utility-scale solar project designs, including single-line diagrams, civil, structural, and electrical site plans, DC and AC wiring diagrams, and equipment layouts. 
Solid understanding of the construction applications of solar power plant design, including PV string sizing, DC and AC conductor/conduit sizing, and racking/tracker layout and power distribution 
Pay Range - $145,000 - $200,000
