The opportunity
We are currently seeking a Gardener to join our team in the Barossa Valley, South Australia.
You will play a key role in maintaining the presentation, health, and appeal of the winery's grounds and gardens. This position supports the Head Gardener in ensuring all outdoor areas are maintained to a high standard, contributing to an inviting environment for customers, guests, and event attendees. The role also provides general assistance for events, functions, and other operational needs across the property.
Your duties will include:
* Maintain gardens, lawns, pathways, and landscaped areas to a high aesthetic and horticultural standard.
* Undertake routine gardening tasks including mowing, pruning, weeding, mulching, planting, watering, and fertilising.
* Monitor plant health and report issues such as pests, diseases, or irrigation faults.
* Operate and maintain gardening tools, machinery, and equipment safely and effectively.
* Assist with the setup and pack-down of events and functions, including moving furniture, signage, and outdoor décor.
* Support the Head Gardener with seasonal projects, improvements, and general property upkeep.
* Ensure all outdoor areas are clean, tidy, and welcoming for customers and visitors.
* Perform other duties as requested to support winery operations.
To succeed in this role, the ideal candidate will have:
* Experience in gardening, landscaping, horticulture, or grounds maintenance.
* Ability to perform physical, outdoor work in varying weather conditions.
* Strong attention to detail and pride in maintaining high presentation standards.
* Reliable, self‐motivated, and able to work both independently and as part of a team.
* Good communication skills and a positive, customer‐focused attitude.
* Willingness to assist with events and occasional weekend or after‐hours work as required.
Desirable Attributes
* Interest in landscape design or garden improvement projects
* Basic knowledge of irrigation systems and garden machinery
* Formal horticulture training or qualifications.
* Experience working in a winery, hospitality venue, or tourism environment.
