Digital Curation and Preservation Specialist Role

The University of Melbourne is seeking a skilled Digital Curation and Preservation Specialist to play a crucial role in ensuring the longevity and accessibility of our digital assets.

This key position will be responsible for developing, overseeing, and enhancing digital curation and preservation capability programs. The successful candidate will also advise on, develop, and maintain policies, workflows, and documentation supporting the preservation of the University's digital assets.


Key Responsibilities:

* Developing Digital Curation Programs: Develop and oversee the implementation of digital curation and preservation capability programs that ensure the long-term preservation and accessibility of the University's digital assets.
* Advising on Preservation Policies: Advise on and develop policies, workflows, and documentation to support the preservation of the University's digital assets.
* Managing Digital Preservation Repository: Manage the daily operations of the digital preservation repository, ensuring efficient processes and monitoring for effectiveness.

The Digital Curation and Preservation Specialist will work closely with the Digital Stewardship team to enhance digital preservation capabilities across various initiatives. This role requires a strong understanding of digital curation principles, practices, and technologies, as well as excellent communication and project management skills.


Required Skills and Qualifications

The ideal candidate will possess a relevant degree in information science, library science, or a related field. They should have experience in digital curation, preservation, and metadata management. Strong analytical, problem-solving, and communication skills are essential for this role.

Proficiency in software applications such as Adobe Creative Cloud, Microsoft Office, and Google Workspace is required. Experience with digital asset management systems, content management systems, and metadata standards is highly desirable.
