This role is within a regulator that plays a critical role in safeguarding quality and integrity across a nationally significant sector. Its mandate is centred on driving strong outcomes, building sector confidence, and applying proportionate, risk-based regulation.
The works that this data team does sits at the heart of this work. The team is responsible for the collection, analysis, interpretation, and dissemination of data and information relating to the sector.
The team provides trusted data and insights to inform decisions, support regulation and enable innovation internally and across the sector
The Opportunity
This is your chance to step into a role that combines team leadership with hands on data analysis at an exciting time for data within the agency as it embarks on the next stage in data maturity journey.
The agency is investing in its data capability (including a modern Datawarehouse) to support the journey from descriptive reporting to advanced analytics, intelligence and actionable insights.
With a clear three-year data strategy set by the Chief Data Officer, this role will see you directly influence how data is used in the agency
* Build and develop capability of a small close knit team while still being close to delivery
* Encouraged to experiment, try new approaches, and solve business problems in different ways
* Not constrained by legacy thinking with the flexibility to improve how data is reported and used
* Opportunity to influence design, optimisation, and use of emerging platforms
The Role
* Streamline and optimise data, reporting, and analytics processes
* Split focus: 50% strategic (forward-looking), 50% operational delivery
* Lead delivery of data and reporting products, including Senate Estimates briefs
* Translate technical outputs into clear business-focused insights
* Move teams and stakeholders beyond "what happened" into "so what" analysis
* Act as the key interface with business areas; setting expectations on data availability and timelines, and negotiating trade-offs (e.g. quick wins vs deeper analysis requiring longer lead times)
* Support optimisation while the functions and platforms mature
The Ideal Person
This role will suit an experienced data professional who enjoys the challenge of leading a team while still staying close to the tools and delivery.
You bring strong leadership capability, with experience setting direction, motivating staff, improving workflows and lifting the maturity of a data function in a pragmatic, fit-for-purpose way.
You engage confidently across the organisation, translating technical outputs into clear business insights and delivering data solutions that genuinely meet operational and strategic needs.
Australian Citizenship is mandatory while an existing Baseline clearance is desirable
Salary / Rate
This role is initially being offered as a 6 month EL1 non-ongoing or s26 Temp transfer (A/g will be considered) with a likely extension (including future permanency).
The salary will range from $120k - $134k + 15.4% Super.
